The New Bun: Easy On-The-Go Hairstyles

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

With December in full swing and temperatures dropping, getting out of bed in the morning is no easy task. Want to spend a few extra minutes cuddled under the covers and still leave enough time to get ready for that 8:10 class? Put down the flat iron and try these simple hair-dos that will add a bit more glam to your snow boots and parka ensemble.

Fresh Take on the Bun
Bored with your usual messy bun? Consider this idea from Allure. Pull hair into a ponytail slightly lower than the back of your head. Tease the tail and then twist it once. Continue to wrap the hair around itself, resulting in more of a cone-shaped bun that will stick out about two inches from the back of the head. Gorgeous.

Over-the-Shoulder Braid
A loose braid is a cute, laid back alternative to a slicked back ponytail. Give yourself a deep side part, and bring your hair over to one shoulder. Braid the entire length and secure with a hair band. This style also looks great with a winter hat or earmuffs!

Braided Bun

This style may look fancy, but it is actually very easy to execute. Part your hair either down the middle or to the side, take an elastic that matches your hair color and pull your hair back into a tight, low ponytail. Braid the ponytail and then wrap it around itself and secure it to the back of your head with bobby pins. Voilà!

Add a Headband
Transform a simple bun with the addition of pretty hair accessories. This one couldn’t get any easier.

Tease your crown with a comb to add a little volume before pulling your hair into a bun. Slip on a headband or a ribbon and you’re out the door!

French Braid and Fish Tail
Although a bit more difficult, French braids and fish tails are classic styles that add an elegant touch to any look. If you can’t execute them on your own, grab a roommate or friend, and if all else fails, check out this article from Seventeen for step-by-step instructions on how to fishtail braid.
