This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

We sat down with resident Skidmore songstress Izzy Howard to talk about her music projects this year and all the exciting things she has coming up!

Name: Izzy Howard

Class: 2017

Major: Theater with a concentration in directing

Hometown: Orangeburg, NY

HC: When did you first start singing?

Izzy: I’ve been singing ever since I can remember, but I started jazz vocal lessons when I was 12.

HC: What has been your favorite experience performing at Skidmore?

Izzy: Beatlemore Skidmania was the most fun I’ve ever had on stage without a doubt. It was so awesome to be a part of something with such incredibly talented people.

HC: Can you tell us a little about how your song-writing process?

Izzy: Troy Bolton is like a HUGE inspiration!!!!!!!

Honestly sometimes I’m just in a song-writing mood. I have a bunch of two line songs in my phone. A lot of my songs come from my life, and A LOT of my songs come from me basically writing little fiction stories, I guess.

HC: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?

Izzy: Jimi Hendrix, Sam Smith, John Mayer, Nirvana, Jhene Aiko, Childish Gambino, Louis Armstrong, Amy Whinehouse, Temptations, Alt-J, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bonnie Rait, Punch Brothers, Beyonce, Etta James, ACDC, Vampire Weekend, Mumford and Sons, Peter Gabriel, Mac Miller, etc.

HC: Do you have any upcoming performances?

Izzy: I’m doing a gig for a super cool music bar at this place in my hometown, called The Turning Point, January 4th!

English Major and Business Minor at Skidmore College and new Co-CC of Skidmore HC. Spends free time hanging out with friends, taking yoga classes and dancing, and admittedly binge-watching her favorite Netflix shows.
