We sat down with resident Skidmore songstress Izzy Howard to talk about her music projects this year and all the exciting things she has coming up!

HC: When did you first start singing?
Izzy: I’ve been singing ever since I can remember, but I started jazz vocal lessons when I was 12.
HC: What has been your favorite experience performing at Skidmore?
Izzy: Beatlemore Skidmania was the most fun I’ve ever had on stage without a doubt. It was so awesome to be a part of something with such incredibly talented people.
HC: Can you tell us a little about how your song-writing process?
Izzy: Troy Bolton is like a HUGE inspiration!!!!!!!
Honestly sometimes I’m just in a song-writing mood. I have a bunch of two line songs in my phone. A lot of my songs come from my life, and A LOT of my songs come from me basically writing little fiction stories, I guess.
HC: What kind of music do you enjoy listening to?
Izzy: Jimi Hendrix, Sam Smith, John Mayer, Nirvana, Jhene Aiko, Childish Gambino, Louis Armstrong, Amy Whinehouse, Temptations, Alt-J, Stevie Ray Vaughn, Bonnie Rait, Punch Brothers, Beyonce, Etta James, ACDC, Vampire Weekend, Mumford and Sons, Peter Gabriel, Mac Miller, etc.
HC: Do you have any upcoming performances?
Izzy: I’m doing a gig for a super cool music bar at this place in my hometown, called The Turning Point, January 4th!
