Alli Green ’15

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Skidmore chapter.

Name: Alli Green

Class Year: 2015

Major/Minor: Art History/Studio Art

Hometown: Huntington, Vermont

HC: What made you choose this outfit?

Alli: I chose this outfit partly because it was clean. But really I like to have fun with putting things together, so I chose a simple dress that I love to jazz up with little things I find. I love pinning on fur collars, wearing big costume jewelry, and amazing/hard to walk in shoes.

HC: Where do you like to shop?

Alli: Everywhere. Places like Kohl’s and Marshall’s take me really far for basics, and when I’m looking for something more unique and fun, I try thrift stores, consignment shops, flea markets, mom’s closet, my older sister’s closet, and Bella Boutique in Burlington, VT, the place that gave me my first job. I also love to craft so I sew and hot glue things for myself all the time. And modcloth, I can’t forget modcloth.

HC: Who is your fashion icon?

Alli: I love looking back a previous decades. Edie Sedgwick, one of Andy Warhol’s muses, had amazing style; I love all things sixties, the weirder the better. On that note I’m obsessed with Tilda Swinton’s wardrobe; her simplicity and androgyny make her unique and intriguing. Finally I love old snapshots of my mom. She’d never call herself a fashion icon, but the woman knows how to pair sweaters and brocades with tortoise shell glasses and I think everyone’s first goal with dress should be to look like yourself, or any version thereof.

HC: What are your go-to pieces?

Alli: Sweaters, dresses, and costume jewelry. Layers are key. I tend to wear too much dark and too many floral patterns. My weaknesses are jackets and purses.

HC: Any favorite accessories?

Alli: Head scarves, removable collars, and nice big earrings. Seems like they’re growing obsolete but I also love charm bracelets.

HC: What article of clothing do you think every girl should have in her closet?

Alli: Something that made you say “YES” when you got it, “YES” every time you see it in your closet and “YES” every time you wear it. I’m definitely bias (writing my thesis on it and all…) but I firmly believe that what we put on our backs matters. Every young woman should aspire to own at least one wearable thing that stirs in her a sense of confidence, elation, nostalgia, contentment, or, maybe above all, fun.
