5 Philly Events that will get you in the Christmas Spirit

There is no better time to be in Philadelphia than Christmas! The city of brotherly love offers up some of the most fun activities to get everyone in the holiday spirit. From pop-shops around city hall (with no sales tax!!!) to ice skating on the Blue Cross RiverRink, here are 5 Philly activities that’ll make any Grinch’s heart grow three sizes!

 

1. Christmas Light Show at Macy’s

Running from November 24- December 25, the light show runs every two hours in the Grand Court located inside the Wanamaker Building and is absolutely FREE.  The show, which has been around since 1956, consists of sugarplum fairies, dancing snowman and uses over 1,000 lights. The performance is also narrated by JULIE ANDREWS!

 

2. Christmas Village

Open until December 24th, the Christmas Village has been a long time staple of the holiday season in Philly. Located in LOVE park, over 80 wooden stations sell and display Käthe Wohlfahrt trimmings, wintry apparel, handmade toys and all manner of edible and drinkable treats.

 

3. The Holidays at City Hall

Although the attractions vary by date, there is also something new and exciting popping up in front of City Hall. There is outdoor ice skating twinkling lights and indoor space to warm up and fill up on snacks hot drinks. As well as a holiday Maze which is a living labyrinth of seasonal plants and lights.

 

4. The Comcast Holiday Spectacular

Open until January 1st, the Comcast building host a 15 minute feature of dancers from the Philadelphia ballet and features Santa’s sleigh flying across the Philly skyline. The impressive event takes place on massive LED screens  in the Lobby of the Comcast Building at the top of every hour.

 

5. Ice Skating at Blue Cross RiverRink

Onlooking the Delaware River, this RiverRink is open until March 4 and offers a variety of fun activities for anyone in the holiday spirit. Besides ice skating, the RiverRink offers fire pits; a Kids Lodge arcade; a cozy Lodge Restaurant and Bar; 12 nights of Christmas movies; sweets from Franklin Fountain Confectionery Cabin; and Chickie’s & Pete’s. All of this, plus an amazing view of the Ben Franklin Bridge will have everyone in the Christmas mood.
