Balancing school and relationships can be overwhelming at times. You need to give your full attention in class, stay on top of your school work, make sure you spend sufficient amount of time studying for your next quiz but still not forget to communicate with your significant other and best friend. Sometimes you can feel conflicted about wanting to go out on a date with your significant other or go out to the nightclub with your best friend even though you know a pile of school work is waiting for you. It could feel as though you are constantly missing out on the fun college experience because of the amount of time you dedicate to school. It can become so stressful but believe me when I say you can balance both.

Here are two scenarios to help you get an idea of how to balance school and relationships.

Scenario #1:

Your best friend calls you Thursday night and asks you what you will be doing this weekend and suggests you guys go out to dance at your favorite night club. You know that you have been procrastinating on your assignments that are due Sunday but do not want to turn him/her down because you have said no the past two weekends. So now you ask yourself if you should say yes or no? Put things into perspective, if you have way too many assignments that will definitely take you very long to finish, then just say no, there is always next weekend. Leaving that much work behind will stay on your mind all night and you will not have fun. If it is a couple of assignments then try to complete the majority of it before Saturday afternoon that way you could wake up Sunday morning with no regrets about not doing your school work.

Scenario #2:

Your boyfriend/girlfriend has planned for an amazing romantic weekend for the both of you. You two have not been able to go on a date the past couple of weeks due to school. You are so excited to go on this date but realize you have a test Monday that you feel unprepared for. Now what do you do? What you can do is continue to study in advance. The more time you study the material the more you will feel confident. Give yourself time out of your day and hit the books that way you can just take a break from studying and enjoy a romantic weekend with your loved one.

I am an aspiring broadcast journalists working hard to fulfill my dream career. I come a big Mexican family and was always taught to work hard for what I want, nothing will ever be handed to me. I also learned that there is no one I need to prove myself to except for me. I am finishing my studies at SJSU, majoring in journalism with an academic focus in Spanish. I come from a Spanish speaking background and hope to utilize my Spanish in my future career as a journalist. After college I plan to find a place in the entertainment industry and host numerous red carpets and also go back to school and get into the field of real estate. Real estate you may ask? Yes, real estate, I have many things I want to do in life because I am not a person who only settles on one thing. If I had a super power I would choose being in many places at once. I want to earn many academic degrees, visit many countries and learn a piece of their culture, meet new people all over the world, travel and make an impact in the world for the good. While my mind goes crazy with many ideas, I like to relax at home while drinking and tasting different wines, laying in bed and binge watching shows on Netflix.
