6 Things to Know About the 2016 Summer Olympics

Summer 2016 is officially here and we can’t wait to soak up the sun and have a relaxing three months off from school. What makes this summer a special one, is that the Summer Olympics are finally rolling back to the world’s stage! Here are six awesome facts about the 2016 Summer Olympics:

1. The 2016 Summer Olympic Games are going to occur from August 5th until the 21st in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. This is the first Olympic Games to ever be held in South America!

2. There will be 10,500 athletes competing all of whom are coming from 205 different countries. The events will take place in 33 different venues within 4 districts; Copacabana, Barra de Tijuca, Deodoro, and Maracana.

3. Two “new” sports are coming to the games this summer, Golf and Rugby! Both sports are technically returning to the Olympics but after a mere 112 years for Golf, and 92 years for Rugby.

4. There are 7.5 million tickets that are being sold for the Summer Olympic Games. These prices range from $40 all the way to $3,000!

5. There will be about 60,000 meals produced a day in order to keep all the athletes in tip top shape for their events. These meals will be representative of traditional Brazilian cuisine and will include dishes like rice and black beans, barbequed meat, pao de queijo, and acai!

6. The official slogan for the summer 2016 Olympic Games is Live Your Passion. Which is something, that Olympic athlete or not, we should all implement into our lives!

While striving to become a high maintenance magazine girl, Rachel in the mean time, is a Senior Diplomacy major at Seton Hall.
