10 Years Makes a Difference

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Seton Hall chapter.

Ten years is the difference between being called a child versus a young adult. It’s the difference of being in grade school and stressing over finals in college. Ten years can also be the difference between eating Ramen out of a coffee mug, and being a mature adult with a job/career and potentially even married. Here are what some students wanted to be ten years ago, and what they hope to be ten years from now.

Name: Ava Blanchard

Major: Political Science

Year: Freshman

Age: 18

I wanted to be a zoologist because I love animals and wanted to take care of them.

In 10 years…

I would like to be a lawyer because I have an argumentative personality and I’m good at arguing. If I become a civil lawyer, it’s because my parents’ divorce impacted my life emotionally. If I become a criminal lawyer, I would want to be a defense attorney because I would feel guilty accusing someone who’s innocent.

Name: Victoria Parnes

Major: Public Relations

Year: Sophomore

Age: 19

I wanted to be in the Marines, because my grandfather was a part of the Marines. I tried to enlist, but unfortunately I didn’t meet the requirements. Sometimes life doesn’t end up how you expect it to.

In 10 years…

I would like to be a Public Relations Executive. I hope to get small businesses off the ground and help people get their start. I like the idea of getting to constantly interact with people and experience things from a different point of view, and help others understand that.

Name: Kimberly Szilagyi

Major: Nursing

Year: Sophomore

Age: 19

I wanted to be a Marine Biologist, because I really liked the ocean. I had this video game where you got to work for a scuba diving company and live on an island in the Caribbean, and find treasure and study fish and train dolphins.

In 10 years…

I want to be an ER Nurse at a Level 1 Children’s Trauma Center. Four years ago, I got really into children’s emergency medicine, and now I’m becoming an EMT. I want to be in a face paced save-a-life job that involves kids.

Name: Elizabeth DiGiovanni

Major: Elementary Education

Year: Senior

Age: 21

I have always wanted to be a teacher. I always liked school, so I would play school where I pretended to be the teacher.

In 10 years…

I hope to be a Speech Pathologists in a school. It is kind of similar to teaching but it’s concentrated. My older sister went into Speech Pathology and I saw that she loved it, and she encouraged me to do the same, and now I love it too.

Name: Catherine Rubens

Major: Psychology

Year: Freshman

Age: 19

I wanted to be a singer and an actress, because I was really into musical theatre. I thought I was a good singer, and friends and family told me I was “so amazing.”

In 10 years…

My main goal is to help those with mental health issues, mainly kids and young adults. I’m stuck between being a school counselor, owning a private practice, or working at a hospital as a crisis counselor. I got into this field mainly from being bullied when I was younger, and when I got through that it inspired me to help others to get through situations like that as well.

Name: Laura Colantonio

Major: Marketing

Year: Junior

Age: 20

I wanted to be a pop singer. Hannah Montana was my idol at the time, and I liked the idea of everyone loving me and wearing nice clothes.

In 10 years…

It would be really cool to be an animator for Pixar or DreamWorks. I would definitely want to animate children movies and those are some of the best companies to work with.

Name: Madison Bruce

Major: International Relations

Year: Junior

Age: 21

I wanted to be an OBGYN. My mom was infertile and she tried to have children for 6 years, so I wanted to help people who needed help conceiving. Life is a miracle which is why I wanted to do it.

In 10 years…

I hope to be a professor at an established University teaching Russian History or Russian Language. I have always loved learning languages, and Russian History is what I am minoring and is something I would love to continue learn for the rest of my life.
