A Playlist For Your Walk to Class

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SDSU chapter.

Now that the new semester is upon us, it’s time to spice up that playlist you’ve listened to repeatedly during the fall with a few jams that are sure to brighten up your day. Let’s start with a bit of a disclaimer for this upcoming list; I know you all enjoy the new beats of Justin Bieber (no hate) or Taylor Swift (ugh), but it’s time to broaden your musical scope and return to some of the oldies and old favorites. Not all of these songs are considered oldies (some are from the always-poppin 2000s), but it’s my personal opinion that songs from previous decades groove harder than some of the songs being continuously played on the radio. These songs are pretty much guaranteed to put you in a good mood or make you strut like you’re on a catwalk as you’re walking through campus. So stuff those headphones in your ears and tell the people you’re walking with to simmer down because you’ve got some sick beats to listen to.

1. Ain’t No Mountain High Enough by Marvin Gaye & Tammi Terell

This is a classic and is guaranteed to put a grin on that sad sack face of yours as you head to a 3 hour lecture. NO SAD SACKS HERE!

2. Crazy in Love by Beyoncé

No explanation needed for this Queen B classic.

3. Don’t Stop Till You Get Enough by Michael Jackson

It’s Michael Jackson.

4.  Funkytown by Lipps Inc

This song is so annoying it’s great. When we were younger we used to rock out to this sweet jam every time we watched Shrek and it got old real quick. But after it disappeared for a while along with our other childhood favorites (miss you, JoJo), I’ve come to appreciate the constant beeps and bops that allow for a variety of different dance moves.

5. Get Right by Jennifer Lopez

Sadly, this is one of JLO’s lesser known songs which I truly do not understand because it has one of the most wondrous beats of this century and the last. Can you say saxophone?!

6. Get Me Bodied by Beyoncé

Trust me.

7. September by Earth, Wind and Fire

Here’s one for you young ones that need to learn to appreciate the music of your parents’ generation; they have good taste.

8. Sir Duke by Stevie Wonder

Guaranteed groove ahead.

9. Stayin’ Alive by Bee Gees

There is literally nothing more groovy than 70s disco.

10. You Make My Dreams Come True by Daryl Hall and John Oates

In the race for Happiest Song in History.

Probably complaining or making a joke. Instagram: @jennheinzel
