Valentine’s Day is Not Only for Couples

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCSU chapter.

Valentine’s Day has a rep of being only for those in love. The chocolates, the roses, the stuffed animals and the romantic dinners but as I’ve gotten older I’ve realized it is more than that.

That vibe you get on V-Day that it is only for couples arrives at a certain point in your life. When you were little you loved the holiday because it meant creating a cute little mailbox to put on your desk and then going home with a list of your classmate’s names to write on cards. It is was all excitement on the day you would celebrate Valentine’s in class, finally getting to pull out your cards and candies to share them in mailboxes like cupid himself.

As you got older the commercials and the people around you made Valentine’s into a thing only couples celebrated, but I ask why? We can all celebrate Valentine’s Day without being all in our feelings over being single. Valentine’s Day is about love, in any way shape or form it exists in your life. Whether it is a romantic love, platonic love, all love.

Buy yourself some chocolates and ice cream, watch a RomCom or your favorite t.v. show. Stay in and treat yourself to something extra special. Go out with your friends and celebrate your friendship. Valentine’s Day is for everyone willing to make it theirs.
