Provokestyle

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at SCAD chapter.

Spring break is officially over which means classes are back in session. The first week of a new quarter usually ends with a great event. This week was a fashion show featuring the designs of a local designer named Merline Labissiere. Merline Labissiere is a recent SCAD graduate, who has decided to stay local and pursue her dreams of starting her own label. Her clothing line, Provokestyle is all about having your own voice within style. With clothing starting as low as $40 and accessories at $20, you’re guaranteed to find something you’ll love.

After the show, I had the pleasure of speaking with Merline Labissiere. We talked all about our love for SCAD, fashion, as well as Fashion Blogs. I asked Merline if she could give any fashion student advice on how to “make it big” what would it be? She responded, “Make sure you surround yourself with a group of people that believe in you. If it weren’t for my church or community, I would have never had the courage to start my own line or even host a fashion show”.

A huge thank you goes out to Merline for allowing me to be front row at her show, and for the necklace (shown below). Check out some of the looks from the show, as well as her website.

Hello! My name is Angela Kastrunes. I am a senior Fashion Marketing and Management student at SCAD. I am the founder/CC for Her Campus-SCAD. Our chapter has grown so much over the past 3 years. I'm excited to say we have expanded to the Atlanta campus, and now have over 20 members combined. It's very bittersweet to realize this is my last year, working as a CC for HC. After graduation I hope to either work in social media management, PR for a fashion brand/music label, or as an editor of a fashion magazine (or Her Campus Nationals).
