On Monday, April 30th, His Royal Highness Prince Louis of Cambridge, was born. The last Prince Louis in the British royal family was more than 100 years ago. The name Louis is more commonly associated with the kings of France. 

In 2013, the Succession to the Crown Act was put into effect. This meant that Princess Charlotte won’t be overthrown by her new baby brother. This will be the first time a Princess won’t be overthrown by a younger brother. She is the first royal to retain her claim to the throne.

The line of succession stays as:

  • Prince of Wales
  • Duke of Cambridge
  • Prince George
  • Princess Charlotte
  • Prince Louis
