Molly Jo Smith—the girl that transferred to SAU as a second semester freshman and has taken the world by storm. You may know her as the track star that just keeps on winning!

Molly is a sophomore here at Ambrose. She’s from small town Cambridge, IL along with her lifelong best friend Kendall McKie (who is also her roommate). Molly is an Elementary Education major with a reading endorsement.

Her hobbies include shopping, hanging out with her roomie Kendall, and napping. I mean what college student doesn’t love to nap, let alone a track star! Molly is a member of the Kappa Delta Phi Education Honor Society, Student Alumni Association (SAA), and obviously SAU Track and Field.

“My favorite part about being a member of SAA is being able to give tours to alumni members on Homecoming,” Molly said. “It was interesting to hear them talk about how much campus has changed and being able to show them the new features of Ambrose.”

She got involved with SAA because they were giving away free Whitey’s ice cream at the first meeting. It must have worked because she is very involved with the organization now!

Molly’s favorite part about being on the track team is the people. With the SAU track team having more than 80 athletes and 10 coaches, the team still finds a way to be a close-knit group. She said she loves being with them everyday even when it is suffering through a workout together.

Side note: Not only has Molly broken plenty of school records and qualified for Nationals in many events, but she has been named the 2014 NAIA outdoor female athlete of the year and the 2015 NAIA indoor female athlete of the year!

“I am really thankful for the opportunities our track program has to offer here. We are able to travel, have team dinners, and stay at cool places like a beach house in Gulf Shores,” Molly said.

Molly’s dream job is to be an interior design for HGTV. She said it would be so fun it wouldn’t even seem like work!

Molly’s role model has always been her mom. She says she is the most caring and supportive person she knows.

To younger students Molly recommends to, “Take advantage of our small school size! Because our campus is smaller, it’s easy to become involved in multiple things! No one organization takes up too much time, and it’s a great way to meet new people.

Molly would like to add—GO BEES!
