San Francisco State University offers a study abroad program to several different counteries. In the beginning, it was overwhelming to try to narrow down what specific city I wanted to live in for the next semester. After weeks of research, I chose Paris for several reasons. Here, I’m going to give you the top four.

1) Tuition is the same.
This is true with most study abroad programs, but I remember thinking that if studying in Paris cost the same as San Franciso, it was something I had to at least consider. I was also fascinating by the French. They seem to have everything–fashion, art, food and much more.  Living and studying in the heart of France for the same cost was alluring to me.

2) You get a lot of perks as a student and/or you’re under 26.
The first time I went to the Louvre, I expected to pay the same as everyone else–15 euros. It doesn’t seem like a lot, but I planned on visiting multiple times throughout my stay. Once I found out I get in free because I’m under 26, I inquired about other museums who offered free entry. At least 39 major museums offer free admission as long as you’re under 26 and can prove you live in France. Train tickets also offer student disounts. This is great if you’re like me and plan on traveling to surrounding countries.

3) You are given an opportunity to connect and network with students from other countries.
As a business student, networking is important. In San Francisco, it’s common to find students who are traveling from another country, but unless they’re in your class or you join a club, you have to seek them out. At the American Business school, events are set up so you’re practically forced to mingle. I’ve met people from Germany, Holland,  Scotland, Russia. Mexico, China, Korea and so much more. The opportunity to talk business with someone from a completely different culture allows me to look at business from a different perpective. It allows me to learn, teach and analyze different business practices.

4) Easy traveling access to other countries. Seriously. Europe makes traveling so convenient.
It helps that France is in the middle of everything. Paris being the country’s capital doesn’t hurt either. It guarentees major airports and numerous train stations. Whether you choose to spend a night on a train to Germany for Oktoberfest or take RyanAir to spend a weekend in Venice, Italy, you’ll find that both options are affordable and convenient. Another perk–if you make friends with someone in the country you’re visiting, the chances of them letting you stay at their place for free is pretty high.

I could easily write an essay on reasons why you should study abroad in Paris. The opportunites, friendships and memories I’ve made here will affect my future academically, personally and professionally. Paris is a beloved and wildy popular. Experiencing the culture here is not one you regret
