A disfunctional family under on roof, a missing wife, an Olympic trained wrestler, a search for a long lost son, a 28 year old young at heart, and a British cryptologist all have one thing in common. They are all the topics of this fall’s upcoming movies. It is going to officially be fall soon, so what better time to take a peek at my picks for upcoming films of the autumn season.

1) This Is Where I Leave You: For this dramatic – comedy, a well known cast is used to fill its characters. Tina Fey, Jane Fonda, Jason Bateman, Corey Stoll, and Adam Driver play a dysfunctional family, all whom are experiencing different dramatic turn of events (one brother finds his wife is sleeping with his friend), and are brought together by the death of their father. The quriky siblings are forced to live it out under the same roof again for a week. The main premise of the film, is about the siblings trying to get through their drama, the loss of their father, and finding themselves admist a mini mid-life crisis. With tragic underdtones, this film seems like it is going to highlight the crazy solice that siblings find in one another, and the process of excepting love and life in the most comical and realistic way possible. I think the thing I will be most looking forward to in this movie, is Tina Fey’s preformance of mixing serious with silly. Date: Sept. 19th.

2) Gone Girl: This a pretty highly anticipated movie adaptation of a novel from the same author who wrote the “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo” series. For those who haven’t read the book it should be an exciting heart thumping thriller, where a woman named Rosamund Pike suddenly goes missing, and her distraught husband becomes a suspect in the case, in his quest to find his beloved wife. Even though the plot of the film sounds a bit like the 1993 Harrison Ford film, “The Fugitive”; it sounds like the film will stay faithful to the book since its director, David Fincher also directed “The Girl with the Dragon Tatoo”. So fans of the novel have something to look forward too. And even though I didn’t read the book, I can still can look forward to Ben Affleck playing the main protagonist, racing to solve a mystery that would perhaps even snag attention from Sherlock Holmes. All in all, I would definitely pay the 11.50 to see this movie. And if Affleck’s preformance proves to be sublime, it may snag attention from the accademy for best picture. Date: Oct. 3rd.

3) Foxcatcher: Now I don’t usually judge a book, or a movie by its cover; however, with this cool film title and the prospect of watching Channing Tatum for almost 2 hours I already know that this is going to be a decent film. Also staring Steve Carell as a strict and obsessed amateur wresteling coach, this promises to be one of Carell’s most serious roles yet. Channing Tatum and Mark Ruffalo are wrestlers (based off a true story) who are being trained for the Olympics under the strenuous eye of the whealthy John du Pont. The movie’s director, Bennett Miller also directed “Moneyball” and “Capote” so, this I think this film will take quite the dramatic spin, as the coach becomes paranoid, (as seen in the trailer) and the wrestlers become close to cracking at any second. Anyone who likes high stakes, wrestling and seeing Channing Tatum bust his butt I think will enjoy this movie. Date: Nov. 14th.

4) Dumb and Dumber To:  Dumb and Dumber is one of my favorite comidies of all time. Yest it stupid, and yest it is dumb, but thats what makes it utterly hilarious. Who could forget the horrendously ugly suits that Lloyd and Harry wear? Or when Lloyd sees a picture of Neil Armstrong landing on the moon and coming to the dumb conclusion, “Hey they landed on the moon?! Thats fantastic!” Stupidly, thinking that the lunar landing just happened a few days back. So I am quite excited for this movie, and can’t wait to see what antics that the two friends get into this time. Althought the main plot of the movie is help Harry find his long lost son, it is clear that they are going to get sidetracked along the way. For instance, when Harry tries to persuade Lloyd to come out of a psycho ward, when all along he was faking it. These are the kind of the silly hijinks that will dot the movie, but I’m pretty sure this movie is meant to make you laugh so hard you cry, and not to win an oscar of anysort. Date: Nov. 14th.

5) Laggies: Focusing on the smaller indi films that are going to come out, the one that stands out to me is a film with Keira Knightly and Chloe Grace Mortez. In this quirky comedy, a 28 year old women who is having trouble getting started in her life, and letting go of her urge to still behanve and live like a teenage. Hence the term laggies which is in reference to people who lag behind or ‘dilly dally’ in getting their adult lives together. So Keira’s character who is jobless finds comfort with a 16 year old girl as her friend. I think this film will be super cute, since it creates a twist in the coming of age scenario. I really like indi films, they mostly seem to be more realistic and try to answer the better questions in life. Even though, this film may be a small blip on the box office records, I’ll definitely search this movie out to see it’s interesting and different theme. Date: Oct. 24th.

6) The Imitation Game: I must admit, this is the film I am most looking forward to this fall. Benedict Cumberbatch is no perfect faced Tom Cruise. Nevertheless, he has been growing on me. I first discovered him in the BBC series, “Sherlock”, where he brilliantly portrays a modern and arrogant version of Sherlock Holmes. Since then, his unique looks and prime acting skills have, like I said, grown on me. He is the lead in this period thriller, based on a true story taking place during World War Two. He plays yet another character with a brilliant mind, Alan Turning. Turning was a crypotologist, and was faced with the task of creating a machine that couldlm  crack the German Enigma Code, which was a significant contribution that helped the Allies win the war. This historical film, won’t just be a dull biopic, but a dramatic account of one genius and his efforts to help the Allies. I’m guessing that this film will finally put Cumberbatch on the map of major celebrities. Date: Nov. 21st.
