5 Hidden Truths In “Get Out”

If any of you have seen the movie Get Out then you understand how terrfiying and thought-provking it is. The movie was written and directed by comedian Jordan Peele, who got a 100% rating on the infamous Rotten Tomatoes. So far it  has brought in over $110 million dollars, which is truly remarkable being that it was a low-budget film. It originally appeared at the Sundance Film Festival on January 24, 2017 and was released in the United States on February 24th. To date people have been raging about the film and rooting for main character Chris Washington ( played by Daniel Kaluuya) while learning the shocking truth about Rose (Allison Williams) and her family. There have been many discussions about the hidden truths and underlying themes in the movie. The cast of the movie highly recommends seeing it for a second time to pick up on certain cues that you may have missed the first time. To help you with your search the second time around, check out these 5 Hidden Truths in Get Out. 

1. Rose didn’t care about  Chris being racially profiled by the police, because she wanted to make sure that their was no trace of him.

2. Walter (who viewers later find out is Rose’s Grandfather) is caught vigourlousy running at night because he never got over Jesse Owens beating him in the Olympics. 

3. The party was specifically for the auctioning off of Walter. This can be seen being that he was the only one not wearing some form of red and how people took quite an heavy interst in his hobbies and activiites. 

4. Throughout the movie Georgina’s inner self tries to escape “the sunken place.” When Georgina was pouring ice tea for everyone, we see that when  Missy (Catherine Keener) clinked here glass, Georgina was having some kind of internal battle which made her overfill Chris’s glass. 

5. “The Sunken Place” really represents how people of color are marginalized.
