An Open Letter to Rutgers First-Years

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Dear Scarlet Knight,

Congratulations on attending the best university around! By now, you’ve completed your first two weeks of classes and you’re starting to settle into a new chapter of your life—college.   That deserves the highest of all fives and a friendly pat on the back!

Throughout your college career here on the banks of the old Raritan, you may meet your new best friends, your professor whose lecture confirms the dream career that you want to pursue, or a brother or sister who will be your mentor academically, professionally, or socially.   You may find your favorite late-night pizza spot, the couch where you studied for a final exam that you ended up acing, or a dorm lounge that you and your friends hang out in every day.  You’ll find out that the Rutgers buses aren’t as confusing and terrifying as they may seem, responding to a group of people yelling, “R!” with a “U!” will become second nature to you, and there’s a club or organization for every sport, hobby, and interest you can possibly imagine.

The point we’re trying to make here is that being a part of the Rutgers community will expose you to infinite experiences and opportunities, as long as you’re ready and willing to take it all in.  Know that you have the potential to be great and do great things because Rutgers is overflowing with thousands of unique and amazing people like you.  Make the most out of your time here because each year goes by faster than the last, but always know that Rutgers will be a part of you even after you leave with your diploma in hand.   Once a Scarlet Knight, ALWAYS a Scarlet Knight.

Go RU!
