This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rutgers chapter.

Name: Katelyn Serpe

Major: Political Science and Economics

Class: 2018

Hometown: Somerset, NJ

Why did you choose your major?

I was in Model UN in high school and took a class that got me more into politics and policy. I decided to take economics because politics and economics often influence each other so it’s important to understand both.

What are you involved in on campus?

I’m the senior editor for Her Campus Rutgers! I’m also part of the School of Arts and Sciences Honors Program as an Honors Ambassador and a Peer Mentor.

What do you like to do in your free time?

To relax I like to watch TV or read. I’m a big fan of fantasy, science fiction, and, on occasion, romance. I also like to knit but I kind of cheat because I use a knitting loom instead of needles.

What’s your favorite thing about Rutgers?

I love how big Rutgers is. There are always new people to meet. But despite how many people go to Rutgers, I somehow always run into the same people. It just goes to show that you can make a big school feel small if you want to.

What’s your favorite food?

Well if you mean desserts, then definitely German chocolate cake. I have it for my birthday every year. But if you mean real food, then probably the homemade pizza my family makes every Friday night.

If you could have any superpower what would it be?

Telekinesis. It would be nice to not have to get off the couch to get a glass of water or a snack.

Part grandma who enjoys baking, knitting, cats, and scarves while also part child who still can't handle anything remotely scary and always needs a blanket.
