Go pumpkin picking

Duffield’s is just a hop, skip, and a jump away from campus. For only ten dollars, you can go on a hayride and pick out your own pumpkin from the field. I’ve done this before with my roommates and it is best on a crisp autumn day. After selecting your pumpkin, you can check out the Duffield store for apple cider doughnuts!

These prized pumpkins were later painted and used as decoration in our living room.

Sip something special

Heritage Winery is also incredibly close to Rowan’s campus. If you’re twenty-one and up, go on a winery tour for only twenty dollars. Not only do you get to hear about the fermentation process, but you also get to sample some wine! Since I’m not quite twenty, I’ll be staring longingly over the fence.

Head over to Cooper River Distillers on the Camden Waterfront for a couple of events this season. Take a tour of the distillery and sample some sips on Fridays and Saturdays. On October 7th, the CRD team is releasing their second barrel of bourbon. If you’re not into bourbon, check out their fancy cocktail night on October 22nd.

My cousin Ben the Pumpkin can’t wait to see you at Cooper River Distillers.

Get scared

If you like things that go bump in the night, there are plenty of opportunities for you in the area. You can head to Creamy Acres for their Night of Terror. I’ve personally never been brave enough to go, but I think you are. You can also travel into Philly and attend Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls — in fact, Rowan’s Student University Programmers plan a trip there every year!

Head back in time

The Pennsylvania Renaissance Faire is probably the closest I will ever get to being a princess. Although I haven’t yet been to a Ren Faire, some of my closest friends go and they love it. You can spend the day in another age: drink, dance, and be merry!

Find a fall festival

Finally, the best thing about fall is fall itself! Fall is cider and pumpkin spice and leaves and jack-o-lanterns. Why pick just one? Philly is having all kinds of fall festivals throughout the season. I’m most excited about Glow, a jack-o-lantern festival. However, you can also make your own fall festival.

Let me know what fall festivities you have planned!
