This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rider chapter.
This bubbly, high-strung sophomore talks about her down to earth lifestyle and her feelings on natural beauty. Read about this single-dimpled cutie as she talks about her interests, her style, and how she is indeed her own person.

So, what’s Joaunte doing in her spare time?
I’m into sports, so on a normal Sunday I am studying while watching a football game. I like dancing, talking, relaxing, and spending time with my friends. I do whatever is exciting that particular day. I love music also. My preference is usually R&B or Hip Hop, but I occasionally listen to Jazz because it’s soothing.

Do you wear makeup?
Honestly, I don’t wear make-up. I was always told growing up beauty is skin deep, so I try to keep up with the most natural appeal. The most I do is wear Chap Stick or lip gloss.

What’s the best beauty advice you’ve ever received?
The best beauty advice I’ve received was to never hide my flaws. Being told that just gave me more motivation to not wear make-up and to flaunt what I have.

How many pairs of shoes do you own? Which is your favorite?
I own multiple pairs. I don’t even keep count anymore because I’m so used to buying a pair of shoes if I really like them. My favorite pair of shoes is definitely my high top, black, Polo sneakers.

What is inside your handbag says a lot about you. What do you always carry in your purse?
If I did carry a purse I would always carry my phone, my iPod, my wallet, chap stick, lip gloss, something to write with, and as weird as it sounds, deodorant.

Where are your favorite places to shop?
I love to shop at Forever 21, Underground Station, and Finish Line. Forever 21 is definitely my favorite place for clothes and accessories because I feel the store appeals to everyone’s style. I am not what some would call a “girly girl.” I wear what I like, what I feel looks best on me, and what I feel is comfortable. The shoes I don’t get from Forever 21, I get from Underground Station and Finish Line.

What inspires you to select the outfits you wear?
I’m inspired by magazines on some occasions, but it’s usually on what comes to mind when I think about getting dressed in the morning. If I don’t want to match I won’t, if its chilly and I want to wear a cardigan I will and if I decide to just wear a skirt just because, that’s my choice. It’s the most rewarding aspect of being your own person.

What are some of your wardrobe staples?
I feel a pair of heels is always needed, even though I refuse to wear them nine times out of ten. I need work out attire all the time and I need my sneakers, but I would really feel lost without sweats and cardigans. Those two things are the most comfortable to me.

What is your favorite way to do your hair? Are you a simple ponytail girl? Or do you like to curl it and add accessories?
I always feel the need to have my hair braided up. I went natural right before my freshman year in college and my main goal is just growing my hair out and making it healthier.

Clothing and style is a significant reflection of a person’s personality. In general, what does your style or clothing say about you?

My style or clothing would basically say I’m a pretty much down to earth person. I influence my own style and I refuse to follow in others’ footsteps. I set my own boundaries.
