Cold Weather Harshing Your Mellow?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Rhodes chapter.

It’s that time of year again: the alarm sounds, you pull of the covers, feel the air, and immediately recoil back into the warmth of your bed. That super cute dress and casual cardigan that you pulled out last night and were psyched to wear just isn’t going to cut it for the blizzard brewing outside. Yep, you guessed it; winter is coming. Time to schlep on the neutral sweaters, earth-toned jackets, and trudge your way to class, right? Wrong! What better way to beat the bleak weather blues than to be bold! Here are five sure-fire ways to make your dauntingly chilly day a breeze:

  1. Color Me Happy: While the black and grey sweaters will keep you super warm, who says you have to be so boring? Throw on a patterned or colored scarf, and your once drab array of monotones is now an outfit with some edge.
  1. Strut Like You Mean It: Rock your way to class by killing it in a pair of boots that make the campus your runway. Maybe they are a pair with some edgy buckles and zippers. Or maybe they have some height. Pick your poison, but whatever it is, own it! Add a little extra bounce and smile! The icy atmosphere is no match for your killer kicks.
  1. Sneaky yet Sassy: Remember that pair of half-calf socks with cats, buttons, and snowmen on them that your crazy aunt Betty gave you last December? Bust em’ out! They may be tacky or unattractive, but thinking about them hidden under your latest pair of Frye’s will put a smile on your face and totally make you forget about the cold air blowing through that window your professor refuses to close.
  1. Sparkle and Shine: Winter is all about the accessories. With everyone flocking to the same stores to stock up on comfy sweaters and jeans, it is important to find some way to stand out from the crowd. Maybe it is something as simple as a warm nail polish tone or a bracelet with some big stones. Whatever the case, do not be afraid to be bold and take some risks. The bolder, the better!
  1. Bust a Move: Sometimes you wake up and you just don’t have enough time to perfect an outfit. Alas you are stuck with the classic yoga pants, hoodie, and sneakers. That’s OK, your trusty iPod is here to save the day! You may not have enough time for your attire, but you always have enough time for your mood. Create a playlist of the best songs that get you going. Whether they be boy-band oldies or electronic newbies, make sure they make you happy. Headphones in, volume up, and have an awesome day! Cold weather can’t break you down with NSYNC and Avicii by your side.
