Nike Training App: Prepare to Work Out & Fall in Love

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

As I was in bed a few months ago, I was playing around on my iPhone in the App Store, and I came across a new and free app called ‘Nike Training Club’. As part of a new campaign called ‘Make Yourself’, which is dedicated to women being fit, Nike has released this app for iPhones. I eagerly downloaded it. Let me first say that I have always been pretty athletic, with a track background—vigorous workouts was something I was used to. I am always looking for something new and challenging, especially when it’s cold and you don’t want to go outside. Ladies, after one workout, I couldn’t walk.

So what is so great about Nike Training Club? What is nice is that it allows you to choose what you want to do. Do you want to get lean, get toned, get strong, or get fit? Are you a beginner, intermediate, or advanced in experience? Let me say I thought I was advanced—I definitely needed to start with beginner.  Here is what it looks like!

Basically in short, this app gives you a personal trainer right in your own home. With its personalized programs, you can scroll through them, see what you like and choose it. So for example, let’s say you want to ‘get lean’ and you decide you are a ‘beginner’. A variety of workouts pop up ranging from 30-45 minutes. You can individually click on the workout and see what you will be doing and it decide if that’s the workout you want. What is amazing about this app is if you see a specific exercise and you don’t know how to do it, you click on it and it will show you step-by-step pictures of how to do it and even includes a video if you’d rather watch it live.

These workouts are incredibly hard and actually include exercises of variety. I have learned so many new exercises through this application! Once you decide on a workout that you want to do, you simply click ‘get workout’ and you have a ‘trainer’ with a timer that guides you through the different exercises. They usually last between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, which is nice because you are always doing something different. Don’t be fooled, there are still some exercises that I cannot do the full time.  Another perk is that it can sync with your iTunes and play your own music as you are working out.  Last but not least, it records your workouts and you can receive ‘rewards’ which include recipes and tips from athletic pros. I love it and would recommend it to anyone!
