Lanna Brown: Queen of the Slopes and the DJ Booth

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

It is officially winter break for all Purdue Students. With that being said, imagine spending your break in Colorado with fresh snow on the ground, surrounded by mountains, and the lovers of winter sports.

How would you like to be skiing and snowboarding down the snowy slopes of Snowmass in Aspen all day? Followed by epic nights of raging away the exhaustion and physical fatigue that have set in after hours of physical activity; sounds amazing! That is exactly how this week’s Campus Celebrity will be spending part of her winter break.

Meet Lanna Brown: an avid skier and member of the Purdue University Ski & Snowboard Club. Brown, a senior at Purdue from Lincoln, Nebraska doesn’t just enjoy skiing. She enjoys PUSSC so much that she is a board member and is actively involved in organizing and planning the clubs week-long excursions that they take each year.

She also works with companies that sponsor PUSSC and will help put together social events for all of the club members (and prospective members) to partake in.

“I look forward to this week every year,” Lanna says of their annual trip. “Great skiing, great people, and too great of a time to even comprehend.”

Lanna is an out-going, fun, gorgeous girl who can hang with the boys, on the slopes and in the DJ booth. Yes, that’s right: even in the DJ booth. Lanna’s love for underground electronic music inspired her to purchase her own DJ equipment and slowly but surely she taught herself the ins and outs of the turntable.

Her persistent motivation got her noticed by her boss, whose company, Abstract DJs, signed her. He then gave her proper training and she now has a contract with the company. For all of the other collegiettes™ who might be interested in spinning tracks, this is what Lanna has to say:

“’She took me to a place where my senses gave-way. Turn it down; shut it round, what the people say.’ Find an idol and be influenced.”

Wonderful advice. If you have a dream, go for it, just like our Campus Celebrity Lanna Brown did.
