Matt and Kim Get Weird at Penn State

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

No better way to spend the last night of summer 2014 than with an hour of pure fun and music. Thanks to PSU Homecoming and SPA (Student Programming Association), Penn State students enjoyed a free concert Sunday night featuring the American Indie dance duo, Matt and Kim. Most people recognize them by their quirky style and hit single “Daylight.”

What most people don’t know is that Kim is a fellow “Penn Stater!” During the concert, Kim could not stop making jabs about her short stay here by saying things like, “I was forced to leave after one year,” and blaming her short run on the fact that she had a little too much fun during her time spent in Happy Valley. She also had her own set of explicit and blunt advice to give the audience and, for the sake of our under 18 crowd, I’m going to rephrase Kim by saying, “You have to kiss a few frogs before you kiss your prince.” We have all been there and back with a few frogs, I’m sure.

Despite her advice, it seems like Kim has found her prince. She has been dating Matt (yes, that Matt) for years. They are generally very private about their relationship, so it was surprising that during the concert when Matt referred to Kim, she snapped back with, “Yeah, and the girl you’re sleeping with.”  It’s easy to see that this couple has chemistry and a certain “je ne sais quoi” when they are performing on stage together.

We were warned from the first minute of the concert that things were going to “get weird” and weird they got. At one point, Kim, and a majority of the audience, had their shirts off and were waving them in the air. I mean, I kind of understood because it was hot as hell in there. Matt and Kim had this way of keeping the audience going and just when you thought everyone had jumped their highest and screamed their loudest, it got even crazier.  All Matt and Kim wanted was for everyone to have a good time and rage (something we are more than familiar with around here), and that’s just what Penn State did.
