11 Reasons Your Dog Is Better Than Any Boy

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PSU chapter.

People say a dog is man’s best friend. Though that may be true, I think we can all agree that there is a special bond that exists between a girl and her dog. They’re our trusty companions, our furry friends, our noble steeds – and they are always there whenever we need them.

I guess what I’m really trying to say is that, when it comes to relationships, dogs can make better boyfriends than actual boys do… and here are 11 reasons why.

1. They’re always excited to see you.

One thing you can count on when you come home is seeing nose marks on the windows and wagging tails at the door. Nothing really feels better than seeing the glow on the face of your dog bolting to see you as soon as you walk in.

2. You can’t stay mad at them.

They chewed on your shoe, again. Okay, that sucks, but… LOOK. AT. THAT. FACE. It’s so hard to stay mad when they’re just so cute.

3. You can almost always force them to cuddle with you.

Okay, sometimes they do like to play hard to get, but trust me, if you hug them long enough, they’ll eventually give into the love.

4. They always seem to know when you’re upset.

Dogs always seem to know when something’s bugging you and will make it their mission to make you happy again. Whether it’s bringing you their favorite toys, lying on your lap or simply giving you one of their biggest smiles, dogs know exactly how to lighten up your mood.

5. They’ll always protect you… or try to.

Maybe your dog only weighs like five pounds, and that doesn’t really scream “terrifying guard dog,” but if someone is at the door, they’ll make sure they bark at the top of their little lungs.

6. They love you unconditionally.

They don’t care if you gained five pounds, if you haven’t showered in a month, or if you’re having a bad hair day. You’re their person, and all they care about is you and the pizza that you have in your hand.

7. They’ll let you dress them up in ridiculous outfits.

Sure, they don’t always look like they’re thrilled to be dressed up as a hot dog, but they’ll let you put it on them and let you take a thousand pictures before taking it off.

8. Their “Netflix and Chill” is actually just watching Netflix.

Okay, we can all admit that a lot of guys are gross, and the new “Netflix and Chill” craze has led girls from all over to fear just what might happen if a guy comes over to watch a movie with them. Watching Netlfix with your dog, on the other hand, is exactly what it says it is… watching Netflix with your dog. The only thing a dog might surprise you with during a Netflix night is their chew toy of choice.

9. Dogs are always ready to go on cute walks on the beach.

Who needs Mr. Right when you have your dog? Dogs are always game for long walks on the beach or cute walks through the forest. If anything, they might beg you to go on a walk. With a face like that, who could resist?

10.  They love it when your friends come over.

Some guys don’t always get along with your friends, but it’s hard to miss just how excited your dog gets when your friends come over. It obviously means they have more people to get attention from… what dog wouldn’t love that?!

11.  They’re always down to share food.

My dog’s life basically revolves around food (a trait we definitely share). That being said, anytime you need someone to finish the last few bites of your sandwich, they’re beyond down for the challenge. Also, they’re sure to pick up any of the noodles you accidentally dropped on the floor. No cleaning? Yes please!
