Don’t Worry, Be Happy!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

If you’re like me, then you might have a tendency to worry about details. But I’ve found that if you use the resources we have on campus, then you can take so much stress off of yourself.

For example I’ve been stressing about the following:

1. Studying Abroad: Most students have that battle of “should I or shouldn’t I” and trying to get everything in place can be time consuming and stressful! But instead of stressing, I decided that I would meet with people who would know more about it. First, I went to a study abroad information session that gave me the basics and deadlines. Now that I have a guideline, I need specifics. This week I’ll meet with my Financial Aid advisor to talking about financing my trip and exactly how much it would cost. I met with my Academic advisor as well who told me that it would not effect my major/minor/honors certifications and I could still graduate on time. Meeting and talking to people on the campus is a great way to get new information and take the burden off. Now, the question of studying abroad isn’t as worrisome anymore.

2. Declaring a Minor/Switching my Major: I have been contemplating switching my Management major to a Marketing major for a while now. Also, because of the economics classes you have to take as a business major, I’ve really learned to love the subject. However, the idea of switching and declaring made me worry about deadlines! After all, what if it’s too late? So I met with my Academic advisor who told me that switching my major and declaring a minor is easy! In fact, I could take until the end of the year to officially decide and then I could switch if that would help me.

3. Midterms: The first exam in a class is always important because it sets the tone for the rest of the exams. You’re never 100% sure what the formatting of the exam is going to be, and for me, that’s unnerving. I like to go into an exam knowing how to approach it. But that’s the great thing about the professors here because they’ll talk to you about it! The amount of times I’ve sat down my professors, or just emailed them a simple question, are numerous and now I don’t have to worry!

So if you ever find yourself stressed then look around! I bet you have a group of people who are willing to help you if you asked them! :) For anyone in high school, your guidance counselors, teachers and your parents would be more than willing to help with your application process! So don’t worry and be happy!
