Dan Cahaly, ’16

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Providence chapter.

Known fondly as Cousin Dan, sophomore Dan Cahaly is a member of the all-male a cappella group Special Guest. After joining his first semester freshman year, Dan has had three solos and become a hit during Special Guest’s Valentine’s Day charity event.  He is known for singing “Giants,” “OK, It’s Alright With Me,” and “Colder Weather.”

Name: Dan Cahaly

Hometown: Hopkinton, Mass.

Year: Sophomore, 2016

Major: Biology

HC: Why did you become interested in signing?

Dan: I was probably in 3rd grade when I really became interested. I was always singing in the shower and around the house. My music teacher in elementary school saw my interest and suggested I join chorus, so that’s what I did.

HC: What made you want to join PC a cappella?

Dan: During Urban Action my freshman year, my leader, who was in the a capella group, told me about it and convinced me it was something I wanted to be apart of. I was nervous at first because I had never done a cappella, but it has worked out pretty well.

HC: How has being a member of Special Guest affected your time at PC so far?

Dan: Definitely for the better! Through the club, I have made so many good friends that I can always count on, and my voice has really grown in the last two years.

HC: When was the first time you felt like a celebrity?

Dan: I think after my first concert freshman year. I did a solo to the song “Giants” by Josh Osho and Childish Gambino. That was definitely a big moment for me.

HC: Do you have any other hidden talents?

Dan: I can also play the piano. I took some classes when I was younger, but I basically taught myself how to play.
