How to Make the Most of a Rainy Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

Portland has apparently decided that we won’t see the sun until well into July. We’ve had a really rainy Fall/Winter/early-Spring. Snow-pocalypse put Porltand in a state of chaos in early January. As a Portland-ite I walk almost everywhere. So let’s learn to embrace the weather, good and bad!

1. Read a book.

If you can’t (or don’t want to) go outside then you’re limited to indoor activities. I love how rain sounds. So you could enjoy the rain from the warmth of your home/dorm room while reading a favorite book.

2. Build a fort.

3. Watch a Disney movie.

My favorites are: Aladdin, The Little Mermaid, and Tangled. Find yours on Netflix, Hulu, or even for free from the UP library or the local library.

4. Make hot chocolate.

5. Stay in your pajamas all day!

If you don’t have to put on pants then why would you put on pants?

6. If you have to go outside, wear thick socks with waterproof shoes.

7. Go to a museum.

Again, since you’re limited to indoor activities, pick some that would be really fun! You could go to the Portland Art Museum or OMSI.

8. Eat some soup/ramen.

9. Take a bath.

When the rain outside is so cold doesn’t it sound nice to be warm inside? Maybe you have a new bath bomb to try out or you just can’t be bothered to stand while getting clean.

10. Color in coloring books.
