5 Movies to See This Weekend

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Portland chapter.

With all this cold and rainy weather, leaving the comfort of your dorm and cozy bed are probably not your ideas of a good time. As much as I’m sure you’d love to stay inside and hibernate until spring, sadly you’re not a bear no matter how many days you don’t shave your legs. Going to the movies is a perfect activity no matter what the season, but it’s especially nice when the weather outside is everything but nice. Here are 5 recent releases to check out:

1. Forever My Girl

Alright, I’m a sucker for these kinds of movies.  Country music and a love story? I don’t even care that it’s pretty much a wannabe Nicholas Spark movie,  sign me up.

2.  12 Strong

According to IMDB, “12 Strong tells the story of the first Special Forces team deployed to Afghanistan after 9/11; under the leadership of a new caption, the team must work with an Afghan warlord to take down for the Taliban.”  I’ve heard really good things about this American war drama, so definitely check it out.

3. The Post

Meryl Streep and Tom Hanks star in this film. #DreamTeam This American political drama covers the true story of the attempts made by the Washington Post’s to publish the Pentagon Papers.

4. Maze Runner: The Death Cure

Raise your hand if you love running. No one? Then you’re in luck because I’m pretty sure this movie has nothing to do with the actual sport of running. This is the third movie of the Maze Runner series, so it looks like there’s a movie marathon in your future. Trying to find a good read? Check out the books.

5. Molly’s Game

This crime drama film is based on the true story of Molly Bloom, world-class skier turned runner of an underground poker empire,  and based on the book Molly’s Game: From Hollywood’s Elite to Wall Street’s Billionaire Boys Club, My High-Stakes Adventure in the World of Underground Poker. Check out the trailer below.

Victoria is a senior marketing major with a sustainability minor at the University of Portland. In her free time, she loves browsing the aisles of Target, exploring Portland and drinking chocolate milk. When in doubt her outfits are almost entirely from Old Navy and you can normally find her in Kenna Hall where she is one of the Resident Assistants.
