Music Spotlight: Little Mix

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Pitt chapter.

Move over One Direction, a new British group is taking over—a GIRL group.

Meet Leigh-Anne, Jesy, Perrie and Jade AKA Little Mix.

Formed a la One Direction on X Factor, these 4 ladies auditioned in 2011 as a single act on the hit British singing competition, then, after not making it through as single artists, were offered a chance to compete as a group—and became the first group to win the competition.

Their first album, DNA, made American music history by beating the Spice Girl’s chart record of #6, debuting #4 on Billboard’s Billboard 200 Chart. We Wannabe them!

Not only are they mega-pretty, they’re more than just pretty faces—or, as their lyrics say, “Pretty’s just a pretty word.” Their music hones on some serious girl-power with their hit song “Wings,” with lyrics like “Mama told me not to waste my life. She said spread your wings my little butterfly, don’t let what they say keep you up at night.”

Their heavily anticipated second album, Salute, is set to hit American charts on February 4th. They’re then set to be a support act on Demi Lovato’s Neon Lights Tour.

The title track, “Salute,” is an anthem for ladies stickin’ together—“Ladies all across the world listen up, we’re looking for recruits. If you’re with me let me see your hands, stand up and salute.”

Nothing we love more than some good ‘ol girl power!

Check out their album, DNA, and mark your calendars for February 4th, cause these girls are about to take over the world.
