Name: Denise Castro

Year: Senior

Birthday: June 17, 1994

Zodiac sign: Gemini

Major: Elementary Education

On-Campus Activities: “I am a member of the Honors Club. Unfortunately, I have had to let go of some awesome activities due to my student teaching, but in my last three years, I have been a Peer Mentor, Orientation Leader (OL), Service Learning Leader and PEPP Learning Assistant.”

Describe yourself in 3 words: “Quiet, loving and passionate”

What is your main goal in life? “I want to be the teacher that students remember years later. I want my students to know how much I care about them even after they leave my classroom. I want them to know that they can do anything they set their minds to, and that I will be there to support them.”

What do you do for fun? “I love getting lost in a good book.”

What do you love the most about Penn State Berks? “Personally, I love that we are a smaller campus. I have had the invaluable opportunity to form strong connections with amazing professors and peers. During my time at Penn State Berks, I felt like I was part of a pretty neat community.”

What advice would you give to students trying to get as involved as you are on campus? “You have to jump right in! I am a pretty shy person and by simply being willing to take a chance, I ended up being involved in so much. We are a small campus, but there is something here for everyone. It’s up to you to make college an incredible experience.”
