5 Ways to Get Involved on Campus!

Ever find yourself constantly bored on campus? Ever ask yourself, “How can I get involved and make friends?” Well, Berks just so happens to be a great place to get involved and make tons of friends! There are over 40 clubs and organizations here on campus, and they’re all open to anyone attending Berks! It’s up to you to get out there and seek what you’ve been looking for! It can be pretty hard to just put yourself out there to people you’re unfamiliar with, but with these five steps, you’ll be able to make your own fun on campus!

1. Visit the Campus Life Office- Kelly Ann Ryan, assistant director of student affairs, oversees every club and organization on campus. She’s a great resource to find out what clubs are out there and how to get in contact with exec members! Also, you can pitch a club idea to her, and she’ll help you get it started!

2. Talk to your RA or mentor- Most likely, these student leaders are already involved and can give you tons of advice on how to meet new people! Find an upperclassmen, your Peer Mentor in FYS maybe, and ask questions! They will definitely have the answers!

3. Look at flyer boards- Flyers are posted all around campus promoting events and clubs! Check out one of those boards and you can possibly find out a meeting time for a club you’re potentially interested in! Also, you can go to the clubs and organizations page on the campus website at http://berks.psu.edu/StudentLife/ClubsAndOrganizations/clubs.htm and get a full list of club names, the advisors, and the president’s contact information!

4. Attend events- Everyone should be familiar with the C.A.B. calendar! If you’re not, then you’re missing out! Look through the calendar and choose events that might interest you! Along with C.A.B., different clubs and organizations on campus have events planned and advertised in the calendar for the entire semester, so attending those events can get you acquainted with members of the clubs.

5. Follow different clubs on social media- Following club’s social media pages will give you easy access to any major announcements for upcoming events or recruitment! Most of our clubs on campus have a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter account, so this may be a faster way to find out what’s happening!
