Utility Jackets for Fall!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oxy chapter.

For a California fall that climbs into the 80s during the day and dramatically drops to the 50s around six o’ock, utility jackets make the perfect compromise. Utility jackets aren’t too heavy, but they’re an easy piece of outerwear to throw on that will warm you up immediately. I’ve also seen them worn as a great layering device with hoodies or flannels. They usually come in olive, which in my opinion is one of the most underrated (and unexpected!) neutrals on the color palette. Typically they coordinate better with more casual outfits, but hey, as a college student you don’t always have the time or energy to dress to the nines every day. So far, the utility jacket appears to be a trend that is here to stay, so they’ve become available in a variety of designs and patterns.

For this blog I’ve styled a utility jacket for an outfit that’s perfect for a day when you have work, class, and meetings back to back and probably don’t have time to head home and change. I seem to be having these days a lot more often lately, especially towards the end of the semester.  I’m not too huge on studs, but I like how the embellishments on this BB Dakota jacket aren’t so overwhelming. I would layer it with a graphic tee, leggings, and some Steve Madden boots I’ve been crushing on hardcore lately. It looks pretty simple, but when you’re a girl on the go, I think it’s one of the comfiest and cutest combinations you can wear.
