18 Reasons Why Guys in 80’s Movies Are The Men of Our Dreams

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oswego chapter.

The 80’s were a gift to us all. Albeit, I didn’t live through them (a cruel joke the world has yet to explain to me) and I have at least tried my hardest to live vicariously through them via movies. Because the fact of the matter is, the 80’s just did everything better. The fashion was bolder, the hair was bigger, and the music was everything! Like seriously, I would go to an 80’s prom and jam to “Come On Eileen” over watching my classmates grind to Rihanna any day.

The best part was everyone just unanimously agreed that big things could always happen. Your crush could believe in you – even if he was rich and your were poor; the farmer boy could turn out to be your true love and lead you successfully through a fire swamp; and a pair of girl panties could make you king of the dweebs! There was always potential for greatness, and I love that with all of my heart. And no one knew that better than 80’s movie men.

They dreamed big, seemed to understand life before even graduating high school, and used that John Hughes worthy charm to always get the girl. Whether or not you’re familiar with them, you need to be. Thus, enjoy my list of 18 reasons why 80’s men are perfect.

1) They understood the toll school could really take on you.

2) They knew what they wanted, even if it was an unpopular opinion…

3)…Because they understood societal pressures but still said “To hell with them!”

4) They acted confident and cocky…

5) …But deep down they were sensitive and sweet.

6) They lived in the moment…

7) And knew how to dance…

8) In fact, sometimes they got high and danced so hard that they broke the library.

9) They spoke “french”…

10) They partied hard enough to know things could sometimes go awry…

11) Hell, they could be geniuses, but in the end they felt the same way we all did.

12) They cared about their looks…

13) And damn, did they look good.

14) They believed in you, even when they didn’t believe in themselves.

15) Because they were dreamers…

16) …Who didn’t care about the haters or the odds.

17) Most importantly, they didn’t waste time…

18) Because they knew true love only comes around once in a lifetime.
