Best Things to do in Columbus for the Fall

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at OSU chapter.

Ahh, the fall. The leaves are changing colors, it’s football season, and you can get basically anything pumpkin-flavored. What could be better? Throw on your favorite sweater and booties and explore these great places in Columbus.

1. Lynd Fruit Farm is an amazing place where you can do any of your favorite fall activities. Here, you can pick apples, pumpkins, and even go through (and probably get lost in) their corn maze! Once you’re done with that, stop by their Farm Market and pick up some homemade applesauce, fall decorations, and local produce.

2. For those of you who are a little more daring, I would recommend trying out Scareatorium. I haven’t gone to this haunted house yet, but it’s at the top of my list. The best part is that you get 2 indoor haunts for 1 price, and it even includes free parking! The Northland Asylum is located on the site of a real former institution, and you get to experience it all on a self-guided tour. RIP’s 3D Funhouse is the second house you can tour, but from what I’ve heard and seen, you won’t leave without screaming. I love all things spooky, so I will definitely be checking this out very soon.

3. What’s better than a food festival? I’ll tell you… nothing. Lucky for us Columbus residents, there is a mac and cheese festival that is coming in October! Yes, you heard me correctly. Mac. And. Cheese. Festival. Imagine walking around Columbus with a cool breeze while eating warm, gooey, cheesy goodness. Not only is it tempting enough that you will get to devour this comfort food, but the proceeds will also go to support the James Cancer Center. The event takes place Friday, October 6th at the Easton Town Center.

4. Lockdown Columbus is another way to really get into the Halloween spirit. You can choose to try a few different escape rooms, each lasting about 60 minutes. You get to choose between the Haunted Prison, Crime Scene, Mayan Temple, and Mobile Escape Room. Each room has a different difficulty level, so even if you escape from one, there are always more for you to try.

5. Lastly, you should check out Grove City’s Oktoberfest on October 7th for great German food and beer. Not only do you get to walk around beautiful Grove City, but you can eat a bratwurst and a cream puff while doing it. Tickets are $30 for 15, and that comes with a beer can glass. It doesn’t get much better than that!

I am a junior at The Ohio State University studying Marketing and English. I have 2 cats which I love more than anything, and I enjoy shopping, traveling, and watching Tasty videos on Facebook (which I can do for hours... it's kind of a problem).
