Campus Celeb: Bryan Kalbrosky

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Oregon chapter.

Name: Bryan KalbroskyYear: JuniorMajor: JournalismHometown: Los Angeles

Bryan is a Junior with a passion for Journalism. He is the media director and founder for Pit Crew Sports Media, a radio DJ for KWVA and definitely has a bright future ahead of him!

HCO: When did you become involved with Oregon Pit Crew?I’m the VP of Media for the Oregon Pit Crew, which is the student section at the University of Oregon. I started the blog as a Tumblr fall term of my sophomore year last year, and took over all media relations and founded a marketing team this year when I became vice president. I act as the media director and founder for Pit Crew Sports Media.

HCO: What does your job entail?I’m the editor-in-chief of the website (uopitcrew.com) and I also run our Twitter, which has almost 7,000 followers. I run our Tuesday night meetings, and I oversee a staff that includes writers, editors, photographers, videographers, designers and a marketing team for advertising and fundraising. I also am the guest on our weekly radio appearance on KWVA Sports

HCO: What do you enjoy most about it?I love that we’re able to provide a new voice on campus for sports media, and provide stories that tell the fan experience on campus at the University of Oregon. I’ve been able to watch a lot of talented students transform into very professional young minds, and I think their work with Pit Crew has really helped that.

HCO: So tell me about your work at KWVA!I’m a radio DJ where I play mostly new music on KWVA 88.1 FM UO Campus Radio. I host a show called “The Everything Bagel” on Monday afternoon at 3PM, and I play new releases for an hour! It’s mostly danceable music, a lot of it is interesting electronic music that comes from the West Coast. I take requests at (541) 346-0645 and it’s always interesting to hear what people have to say about the music that I’m sharing with them.

HCO: What else are you involved with on campus?I’ve also served on exec board for the Jewish fraternity (AEPi) on campus, and I’m a regular at Oregon Hillel as well. I also work in social media at the Quack Cave for the Oregon Ducks Athletic Department!

HCO: What do you hope to do after graduation? I plan to move to Portland for my spring term of senior year, and finish my credits there while working on a media internship. After, I’d like to move to a big city like Brooklyn or Chicago and work in sports media for a major publication or team.

HCO: What do you like to do for fun?Oregon is a really beautiful place to hang out, especially in spring and summer by the river. I like to go to concerts either in Eugene or in Portland, and I’m a pretty big food junkie as well. I spend a lot of time reading blogs online, and I’m also a pretty big fan of watching new movies.
