Valentine’s Day dates in Athens

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Ohio U chapter.

As soon as Christmas is over, retail stores pile their shelves with pink and red bows, heart-shaped candy, and soft stuffed animals to prep you for the big day. The big day is Valentine’s Day, of course. If you’re one of the lucky ones with a sweetie this year, check out what you can do to wow your significant other on the special day, whether it be your first Valentine’s Day together or your fifth.

Spend those Flex Points

If your relationship is new, you probably don’t want to spend a lot of money or do something too elaborate, so consider taking your new friend to Latitude 39 or one of the coffee shops on campus that accepts Flex Points. You won’t have to worry about dishing out cash, and you’re still in a nice environment that allows you to talk and spend time with each other.

Dinner and a Movie

There are so many places Uptown that you can take your sweetheart to for dinner, such as Casa Nueva or Jackie O’s, which can be followed up with a movie at the Athena. On February 14th, they are showing Harold and Maude at 5:30, 7:30, and 9:30 p.m.

If you’d rather venture to East State Street, you can have dinner at Grand Ranchero, Ruby Tuesday’s, Texas Roadhouse, or Applebee’s, and then catch 50 Shades of Grey at the Athena Grand (If 50 Shades isn’t your partner’s first pick, check out the show times for the week at Athena Grand’s website).

Dancing the Day Away

If you have a dancer of a significant other, the first ever BobcaThon will be hosted at Baker Center from 12 p.m. to 12 a.m. on February 14th! Step to the silly side or be a salsa sensation with your sweetie while supporting the Ronald McDonald House Columbus. Register early to start raising money, or donate to a friend who is dancing!

Kiss at the Kennedy Museum

The Kennedy Museum of Arts is always a nice place to go for the artsy, creative couples. Valentine’s Day weekend, they are having different showings such as Navajo wearing Blankets, Color-Geometric Variations, and Photo Alternatives.  Be sure to stop by to embrace the cultural side of our great school.

Rockin’ the Roses

Get your PDA on at Ping (maybe not) with the Rock Climbing Competition. It goes from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. and comes with prizes of all sorts! Show off your skills to your S.O. by registering. It is $30 preregistration and $35 the day of the event.

Cuties at Cutler

For a fine dining experience close by, make reservations for Cutler’s Restaurant at the Ohio University Inn. Their menu offers fish, chicken, pork, vegetarian entrees, and so much more. This one will be a little more costly (and fancy), so dress up and dine out with your significant other of a long time.

Necking in Nelsonville

For the ultimate Valentine’s Day treat, travel 15 minutes to Nelsonville for the Valentine’s Chocolate Choo Choo. This is an event for those 21+ because of the oh-so-yummy wine. It also includes a chocolate glass souvenir, hors d’oeurves, sweets, and entertainment. The price is steep, at $45 per person, but worth it for an evening out with your lover.
