The Ultimate Mother’s Day Gift Guide

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

It’s almost May, which means you’re probably scrambling to bang out those final papers and say farewell to Bobst for the summer. In the midst of stress from finals and excitement for summer, we all take a day to stop and acknowledge the most important women in our lives: our mothers, grandmothers, aunts and all-around female figures. Your mommy has been there for you from diapers to diplomas, so take this Mother’s Day to really share your utmost appreciation for her. Read on for some easy, yet thoughtful gift ideas that’ll definitely make your mommy smile.

1. For the Sentimental Mom

Photo Collage Blanket ($59.99, Walgreens)

Take it from a girl who has given this gift to both her mother and grandmother – this blanket will definitely be a hit. Walgreens’ online photo service allows you to customize your piece with up to 30 of your most precious photos. On a college budget? While the blanket itself is a great deal, feel free to split the cost among your siblings (that’s what I did with my brother and sister two years ago!). So although your mom may have an empty nest while you live your life in Greenwich Village, now she’ll be able to cuddle up with a blanket that will let her reminisce on past memories, adventures and special occassions.

2. For the Trendy Mom

Designer Perfume ($50-$100, Bloomingdales)

As young women ourselves, we can easily say that our mothers will always be our top fashion icon. A signature scent is a great way to treat your momma this year in a way that says, “Thanks for always being my stylist!” Hint: purchase the perfume from a popular department store, like Bloomingdales, in case she decides to exchange it for a different scent. Perfume bottles last for a while, and your mom will definitely think of you every time she dolls herself up.

3. For the Chef Mom

Personalized Apron ($29.99, Williams-Sonoma)

If your mom loves whipping up new treats in the kitchen, this customized apron is the perfect addition to her baking arsenal. There’s absolutely nothing better than a home-cooked meal with a touch of  mother’s love, so why not share your appreciation for your mother’s cooking skills this Mother’s Day? The apron is available in multiple colors, so select one that you feel your mother will love! If you’re looking for a thoughtful gift under $50, this is definitely the right choice!

4. For the Working Mom

Professional Massage ($75.00, Massage Envy)

For some of us, the most admirable quality of a mother is her strong work ethic. We used to take the bus home from elementary school, grew up with multiple babysitters, and watched our moms still keep a smile on their faces despite stressful days at work. Whether your mom works a traditional 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM job, or just genuinely needs a break from reality, a massage is the perfect way to pamper her. Every mom needs some personal time for herself, but sacrifices that opportunity in order to put her children’s needs before her own. By scheduling an hour-long introductory massage for her, your mom will be able to stop her busy life to take some time to relax.

5. For the Active Mom

FitBit ($59.99-$99.99, Macy’s, Walmart, etc)

Whether your mom prefers an outdoor hike, a soulcycle ride, or a walk around the block, she will love the addition of a FitBit to her usual accessories. With its assortment of colors, FitBit is a fashionable way for one to track daily and fitness activities wirelessly. My mom loves to challenge herself everyday after checking the amount of steps she takes, and FitBit has definitely helped her make more health-conscious decisions. I highly recommend this hot commodity!

6. For the “Sweet” Mom

Fruit Bouquet ($69.99-$99.99, Edible Arrangements)

Since Mother’s Day falls smack in the middle of finals week, many of us may not be able make a quick trip back home to spend quality time with our mammas. In this case, an Edible Arrangements delivery is an extra sweet way to share your appreciation for your mom. I’ve placed multiple orders with the company, and I must say that they’ve never disappointed. Order today for a timely delivery! Hint: you can even add chocolate to some of the fruitful arrangements!

7. For the Crafty Mom

Scrapbook Kit ($25.99-$49.99, Studio Calico)

For some moms, the only way to cope with an empty nest is to constantly keep busy. If your mom loves DIY projects and whatnot, this is the perfect gift for her. Plus, you could even make a mother-daughter day of scrapbooking once you go home! Studio Calico offers a wide variety of themed kits, so select one that you think your mommy will love most! This set will definitely let your mom relax, while also bringing out her creative side.

8. For EVERY Mom

Bouquet of Flowers ($30-$60, 1-800 Flowers)

A classic gift that never disappoints. A bouquet of flowers is always a great way to show your appreciation for your mommy. Make sure to order them NOW to ensure timely delivery! Feel free to add on a teddy bear, box of chocolates, or a thoughtful card for an extra smile. Tulips, red roses, lilies, daisies, or an assortment of all! Happy Mother’s Day everyone!!!!
