Study Abroad Diaries: Wonders of the World

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

Last week, NYU-BA co-sponsored a field trip to Iguazu Falls. Yes, you read right: THE Iguazu, as in one of the newest seven wonders of the world. I was standing in front of the Devil’s Throat screaming at the top of my lungs as I was soaked by the raging waterfalls. It was an unforgettable experience!

It all began Wednesday evening as the private bus picked us up from the Academic Center. We spent the night eating candy and being served dinner on this bus. Pretty delicious flan! I slept most of the way and in the morning, we transferred to another bus. We were in Misiones now (another provinces – sort of like a state – in Argentina), specifically Posadas. The dirt was red and the air was humid. It felt like Mexico to me. We visited an Estancia, where people swam in a pool, others went for a walk, and everyone saw how Mate was made and ate tortillas fritas with sugar. Yup, definitely Mexico. Then off to the ruins and it was cool to hear the history of the natives of the land. Still, it was hot and I was glad to be heading to the hotel.

Holy moly… Sauna… life was good.

The second day was dedicated to the waterfalls. Just look at the pictures and be in awe. Beautiful! Breathtaking! Can you think of another B-word? It is absolutely the BEST thing ever! Go to it. Forget about everything you are doing right now and just fly there. It is absolutely enchanting.

After that, we just went back to the hotel. That night I was introduced to a Brazilian drink and some jazz music in the town nearby.

On our final day, I woke up a bit early to head over to the Argentinia-Brazil-Paraguay Border. NYU had threatened everyone that if we dared to cross over to Brazil, we’d be kicked out of the program. They never said anything about Paraguay… but I wasn’t in the mood to jump off the hill and swim across a heavy-current river. Not today at least. It was a beautiful sight as the river connected all three countries. Each country had the same pillar facing each other, with their own flag colors.

To finish, we headed over to a gem mine. I found a gem loosened in some water. Other than that, it was like any other gem mine I’ve been too. Sorry, it was hot and humid. I just wanted ice cream at the end of it all.

We headed to the airport and on the flight back to Buenos Aires, I just kept thinking how exciting it was to see a World Wonder. Time to see more? Yea, I think so! Next stop: Buenos Aires and some Chinese food.
