10 Things To Do If You’re Single On Valentine’s Day

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at NYU chapter.

When it comes to February, it always seems as if that one day of the month is looming…you know what it is: Valentine’s Day. Some people call this day, “SAD”—Singles Awareness Day, and others love to shower their partners with gifts and acts of affection. For those of you who do not have a significant other, here is a list of some fun activities to try solo or with friends. Don’t let this day bring down! Being single can often be more fun and rewarding than being in a relationship.

1. Have a dance party!

Jump around! Blast some upbeat music and dance the night away! If you’re by yourself, you don’t have to worry about looking silly. If you are with friends, see who has the best moves!

2. Host a Single Ladies night!

Spend the night in, or spend the night out! Either way, bring your gal pals along for the ultimate Galentine’s Day! Talk about your favorite celebrity crushes and eat some tasty food.

3. Watch a movie!

Snuggle in your bed with fuzzy blankets and your favorite film. If you want to spend the day out, see the latest Nicholas Sparks movie or Rebel Wilson comedy!

4. Take a bubble bath!

Spend time relaxing with a soak in the tub. Bring a book with you, or just reflect on your 2016 so far.

5. Treat yourself!

Sometimes the way to a woman’s heart is through her stomach. Purchase your favorite ice cream, or bake your favorite cookies to satisfy your sweet tooth. If sugar is not your thing, order in some pizza or make mac-n-cheese.

6. Ask a guy friend out for lunch!

If you want to have male company, but do not want the expectations of a relationship, ask your guy pal out for lunch. Guys are casual and give good advice.

7. Stay inside and watch Netflix, have a DIY spa day, or ________ (fill in the blank)!

If you do not want to hang out with anyone and you are looking for a time to catch up on your favorite series, Valentine’s Day is the day. Pamper yourself with a spa day, or just catch up on some extra sleep. Do whatever you want to do.

8. Get physical

Go outside for a run, or stay inside and do some yoga. Call up a friend and ask him or her to join you if you want a gym buddy. The post-workout endorphins will make you happy, and you will most likely end up feeling better and more energized!

9. Read about romance

If you want to escape reality and marvel at fictional relationships, pick up a book. Sometimes reading about romance can be extremely fulfilling and relaxing.

10. Enjoy being single!!

It may not seem like it, but being single is the best! You can do whatever you want, whenever you want, wherever you want and with whomever you want! You have the time to focus on yourself and you do not have to worry about obligations or accommodating another person into your schedule. You don’t even have to shave your legs if you don’t want to! If that isn’t reason enough to enjoy being single, I don’t know what is!

Hey, I'm Tiffanie Snyder! Studying MCC at NYU as a junior, I spend my time immersing myself in any kind of movie, book or magazine I can find. Chai tea is my beverage of choice, and I love almost all food. I have a Pomeranian named Tackle. I am writing for HerCampus's Blog section.

When she's not falling in love with fictional characters, she's blogging away on her lifestyle blog. If Erin is "busy", she is either in choir rehearsal or thinking of creative ways to conquer the literary world.
