Upcoming Albums For Your Summer Playlist

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

Spring is in the air, which means that summer is just around the corner and artists have been tactically lining up their new albums to be released just in time to make it onto our poolside playlists. This year it looks like we’re in store for a whole host of fresh new albums that going to be dropped over the next few months. Take a look at what we’ve got to look forward to!

The Chainsmokers: Memories…Do Not Open (7th April)

If Something Like This and Paris are anything to go by, this is going to be an album full of musical variation and absolute bangers. It seems like the momentum caused by Closer is yet to show any signs of fading and the band are going from strength to strength.

Gorillaz: Humanz (28th April)

Whilst not an overly critical album, it was created during a time of political upheaval and the topsy-turvy world of Trump’s campaign and election. Albarn admits it was loosely inspired by Trump, which perhaps means we can expect to hear a whole lot of unpleasant noise.

Kasabian: For Crying Out Loud (28th April)

Kasabian are releasing their sixth album, For Crying Out Loud, this month. You’re In Love With a Psycho has already been released and sets the precedent for a lyrical clanger as well as a bit more of a pop vibe than we’re used to from previous albums.

Blink 182: California (19th May)

Brand new content for your Punk Rock heart and fuel for your epic Summer road trips!

London Grammar: Truth is a Beautiful Thing (9th June)

Super chilled vibes and beautiful sounds, perfect for relaxing summer evenings.

alt-J: Relaxer (9th June)

alt-J are the kind of laid back indie you need in your life this summer. This album takes their sound in a slightly more experimental direction, leaving us all eager to feast our ears on more.

Lorde: Melodrama (16th June)

We haven’t seen much of Lorde recently, but this album is predicted to dominate the charts this summer, as she’s been working hard on making her own original sound and getting back into the game this June.

Lana Del Rey: Lust for Life (Release date and album cover yet to be announced)

Lana Del Rey has really kept us guessing with this one; she released the song Love a few weeks ago (which is honestly so beautiful) and a trailer promoting her new album, but besides a very vague tweet with a list of dates that are presumably the releases of other songs on her album, we know nothing about it other than the name. It looks like she’s really going to keep us guessing with this one…but undoubtedly it’s going to be well worth the wait.

All these albums (apart from Lust for Life) are available to pre-order from iTunes, or you can wait for the inevitable twitter explosion that will ensue the release date of each one and then head straight over to Spotify to get your fix. WHO’S EXCITED FOR SUMMER NOW?

I certainly am.
