Interview: Chroma Bay to headline Rough Trade in November

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Nottingham chapter.

On the 22nd of November, Chroma Bay are taking to the stage at Nottingham’s Rough Trade to perform their first headline show. I spoke to Ben, who is a member of the duo. We discussed their musical influences, the creation of Chroma Bay and what they have lined up for their first headline show. These guys are so awesome and so different to what you can find on the current music scene. Their music is honest and pure and although different from the charts, the quality of their music is at a much higher standard.

Chroma Bay bring something very unique to the table with regards to their music.

1. How did you guys form as Chroma Bay?

We’ve both previously been in other bands and knew each other from the Nottingham music scene. When we first started to create music together, we decided to form Chroma Bay.

2. Do you have any musical influences that have helped shape your music?

As DJs, our music influences vary, but recently in the studio we’ve been listening to a lot of Disclosure, Gallant and Christine & The Queens.

3. Are you looking forward to headlining Rough Trade?

It’s our first headline show as Chroma Bay and it feels like a significant leap from creating music in our studio. We’ve currently been hibernating whilst we write and it feels special to be able to give these songs life during the live show.

4. Any exciting plans music wise that you can tell us about?

We’re aiming to release our next single before the Rough Trade show! We’ll be shooting the video for that over the next week.

5. How would you describe your music and band to people that may not know of you?

An electronic, synthesized twist on pop music using underground sounds.

As you can see from the way Ben describes their music as ‘an electronic, synthesized twist on pop music using underground sounds’, gives immediate implications of a group who are unique. Their latest single ‘Overnight’ can be found on YouTube here https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UlnpSIkhGvY .

A new single will be dropped before their headline show in November and I know the guys are really excited about this one. I think what is also nice about Chroma Bay is how nice they are. Having met them on the Nottingham music scene I can speak from experience.

If you are into live music, I’d recommend coming down to their gig! Oh and did I mention it is free? Can’t beat a free live gig!

Come down and enjoy the set, they have support from the awesome Deco too. November 22nd at Rough Trade.
