It’s finally over. The ink has dried on that last exam paper, the coursework has been frantically submitted 30 seconds before the deadline and you can finally exit Hallward and see the sun again. Freedom beckons – but what to do with it? Even if you only have a few days before you have to hop back on the cycle of lectures and hangovers, there is still time for several essential activities.

1.   Get Life in Order

I know – it sounds pretty dull. But it is inevitable that as you begin to take note of the parts of your life that revision mania blocked out, you will have to admit – things have gotten out of hand. How long exactly has that washing basket been overflowing? Why does my room look like a hurricane consisting of notes and clothes? And what’s that smell?  Something must be done to salvage your poor neglected domestic state. Attack that crusty plate that has been sitting there for a week with all the exam frustration you have built up within you and trust me – you’ll feel better. And cleaner.

2.   Get Smashed

Whether it’s in celebration or commiseration, the end of the exam period calls for only one thing – alcohol. And in most cases, lots of it. Having a dip in the Big O is the first thing in mind for many and let’s face it – what better way is there to finish exams than drunkenly screeching the lyrics to Let It Go into a stranger’s equally inebriated face? It’s time to swing your top round to the Baywatch song with more vigour than ever and to remove memories of the exams – along with memories of the rest of the night.

3.   Retail Therapy

To get over the trauma of that exam, it is finally acceptable to go out and find that must have item that you saw while internet shopping- I mean revising hard – over Christmas. Student loan has just come in and you’re rich! Temporarily. But, hey you worked HARD. You DESERVE that inordinately expensive outfit from Topshop – right?

4.   Exercise

Even for the most exercise-phobic among us (myself included), during the revision and exam period you certainly end up more confined than you would like to be. For those with regular exercise routines, they may have been disrupted and for those who don’t… well we feel even more sloth like than usual. This combined with Christmas indulgences (oh cheese-board why are you so good?) you may not be feeling at your best. Joining that gym that you’ve intended to for months, getting back into sports teams or even taking a walk by the Downs may help you feel less of a bad tempered couch potato and shake off the last of those exam woes.

5.   Sleep

There really needs to be no explanation. Exams are exhausting and we are students. Time for a nap.
