A Yearbook’s Quest for Feedback

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Notre Dame chapter.

The 2013-2014 yearbook came out last week! This should not be news. Hopefully, you picked up your yearbook (they’re FREE). But maybe you’re one of those people who’s like ehh what are memories for? Nostalgia is dumb. I don’t have room for this really pretty, well written, carefully put together commemoration of four of the most important years of my life. For these people I have two counter arguments, Firstly, this will make a kick ass coffee table book someday.

In the near present future, if you have a classy home with a dark wood antique table, a ND class of 2014 yearbook lying on top casually between artist’s books and highbrow magazines will only add to your eclectic intellectual look. Secondly, people actually sell Notre Dame yearbooks for lot of money. Here’s one on Ebay. This guy wants 1000 bucks for his 1921 yearbook. That was probably a really low quality, poorly edited book too. Just imagine how much our 2013-2014 yearbook will be worth someday.

Hey, Big Louis’ senior picture is in there…

(If you did not get a book, and are now regretting it feel free to reach out and I will get you one. My email is listed at the end of the article.)

As a member of the yearbook staff, and a rising Senior, I want for the 2014-2015 yearbook to be something special, a true representation of our time here, our campus, our student body; I want it to be worthy of my future coffee table. So here’s what I’m thinking: our HCND readers are some of the most savvy, socially conscious and involved people on campus, what do you think would make the best book? Please take a minute to answer the next four questions in an email to me.

1. What did you feel were the flaws with this year, and previous years’ yearbooks?

2. What section of the book did you most identify with and why?

3. If you did not identify with any section of the yearbook, why not?

4. Is there anything that you thought got too much coverage, and what did not get enough coverage?
