A Quick Outfit Guide for Thanksgiving Break!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northwestern chapter.

‘Tis the season for fun fashion choices! The holiday season, in all of its sparkly, enticing and food-baby worthy glory bring with it the opportunity to dress for a variety occassions. You may find yourself stuck and pacing the room trying to comtemplate what’s an appropriate outit for the variety of events you might be attending over this Thanksgiving break. Here’s a small guide that’s simple, easy and includes items that most collegiates probably have lying in their closet already!

Whether you’re going to a football game at your old high school with friends or to a large stadium to cheer on your favorite team, one thing that’s crucial is comfort and warmth! A pullover is a great option the long-sleeves which will surely come in handy when it’s chilly out. Pair that with a parka and a beanie and you’re golden for the night. Finish off the look with a pair of boyfriend jeans, which are purposefully slouchy enough to give the look a cool but still collected vibe. Last, shoot for classic grey converse and paint your nails a fun fall color. Voilà! It’s officially game time.

The cozy dinner is definitely probably the most common of Thanksgiving activities that many of us collegiates will be attending over the break. My family and I usually share what we’re thankful for each year before digging into the yummy traditional Thanksgiving meal. Whether you’re eating with family, extended family, friends, etc. you’ll want to be in an outfit that won’t make you want to burst out of your clothes once you’ve partaked in all of the massive amounts of food available on Thanksgiving. For the look above, I paired a festive colored cropped sweater with high waisted black bottoms (super-sliming, but still stretchy enought to allow proper breathing room). Finish the look off with a stay-don’t-stray wine lip color, decorative booties and pearl earrings! The black tote is simple and chic with adequate space to bring whatever you need in case you’ll be spending the whole day at a family member’s house. Get ready for tons of potential photo ops, with the turkey of course.

Urban Dictionary defines Friendsgiving as: ” The celebration of Thanksgiving dinner with your friends. This usually occurs on the Wednesday before or the Friday after Thanksgiving Day, since Thanksgiving is usually reserved for family gatherings.” What differentiates this outfit from what you’d wear to the cozy dinner is that you might want to be a bit more daring with your choices, while still being comfortable of course. This is because Friendsgiving might not jost be a dinner as it could extend into everyone heading out after and doing something fun and festive in the city! Pair a chic paneled dress with a mustard cardi and leopard scarf for added flair and you guessed it—keeping that body heat in check. Have some fun with your makeup by trying out a smokier eye, but balance it out with a soft pink lip. Lastly, accessorize with a cross-body bag, bangles and neutral booties! Get ready for fun, friends (and possibly shenanigans, shh).

This last look is definitely the most formal out of the four looks! For a dinner party, you want your look to be polished, elegant and still rocking colors that embody the holiday season! A great option is a black shift dress as pictured above. Yes, I know opting for the black dress can seem too unoriginal, but hear me out! The great thing about this is that the accessories can really alter the entire look/pull it together. Choose a pair of firey red heels and luxurious gold jewelery to instantly glamourize the outfit. A fun updo, lipstick and a very nicely tailored trench coat will also scream sophistication. Get out there and have a fun night collegiate, because you’re certainly dressed to impress (but also to eat—thank goodness shift dresses are flattering without being tight).

There’s no set rulebook on what to wear for Thanksgivng events. Whether you’re chilling at home, out at the stadium or in a swankier setting, the important thing is that you feel comfy and in the spirit. There’s always room to mix and mingle the tips from these 4 different events for a look that suits you personally. So here’s to the holiday season and all the cheer it brings. Happy Thanksgiving collegiates!
