Every Northwestern student has heard of La Macc. Maybe some students build it into their weekly routine, others may pop in for brunch and mimosas, and some probably just know it as a storefront in Evanston. La Macc, or officially known as La Macchina Café, is one of the most versatile venues in Evanston. By day it hosts couples and families for brunch, lunch and dinner, and by night, hundreds of college students file in like sardines to listen to music, dance and chat.
La Macchina Café is a funky pub-esque eatery and wine bar. Their Italian inspired menu offers yummy options like piadina with Nutella for brunch, prosciutto paninis for lunch and an endless array of pasta and risotto for dinner.
By night, La Macchina becomes “La Macc.” The tables are cleared out, the lights go dim, the music is blasting and the bar becomes the center of attention. Lines are out the door, as people try to cram into this bustling space. This odd venue is home to many memorable, or occasionally, unmemorable nights.
La Macc is truly a testimony to creative business owners. Transforming the restaurant into a bar/nightclub makes this venue accessible to pretty much all age groups. As a college student, I would advise experiencing La Macc by day and by night.
