Homecoming Court 2014: Meet the Candidates

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Northeastern chapter.

If you are unaware, this week is Northeastern’s Homecoming! If you missed Meet the Court on Monday and can’t make it to Meet the Candidates today, here’s an overview of who’s running for Homecoming Queen so you can cast your vote!

Name: Dayna Altman

Year: 2015

Hometown: Southborough, MA

Major: Human Services, Minor: Psychology

Organization You Represent: Student Alumni Association

Why You Are Running: I am running to Change the Face of Homecoming. This means running for Queen representing a group that is not usually showcased. My goal is to change the preconceived notions we have about the Homecoming Court and foster a sense of community within Northeastern, not just this week but year round.

Best Northeastern Memory: The Dialogue I went on this past summer to Germany/Poland.

Fun Fact: My freshman year of college I performed in the Macy’s Day Parade.

Name: Alison Rizzi

Year: Fifth year

Hometown: Stow, MA

Major: Communications with a Psychology minor

Organization You Represent: Sigma Kappa

Why You Are Running: I’m running for homecoming queen so that I can give back to the Northeastern community that has given me so much. A homecoming queen needs to encompass what it means to be a Husky and make Northeastern proud while doing so. I believe that I have done so through the multiple ways I have experienced Northeastern these past 4 years.

Best Northeastern Memory: My best Northeastern memory was becoming a colony member of Sigma Kappa.  By becoming a leader in a new organization on campus, I have experienced personal growth, learned loyalty and shared friendships with some amazing people.

Fun Fact: I’ve lived in New England my whole life but I’ll choose Starbucks over Dunkin any morning!

Name: Roxy Lamb

Year: Senior

Hometown: London, United Kingdom

Major: Business – Management & Entrepreneurship

Organization You Represent: For homecoming I am representing the Delta Zeta Sorority. Why You Are Running: As homecoming queen you are a representation of the wider husky community while you are on campus and as an alumni. I believe through my involvement on campus and dedication to northeastern I would be a great ambassador for the school long after I graduate. Favorite Northeastern Memory: Call me crazy but watching the sunrise while cramming for finals in Club Snell with all my friends last year is one if my favorite memories of Northeastern.

Fun Fact: I used to be Paws, the school mascot

Name: Kelliann Dietel

Year: Senior, graduating May 2015

Hometown: Little Silver, NJ

Major: Human Services with a minor in Psychology

Organization You Represent: Kappa Delta

Why You Are Running: I work as a full-time Admissions counselor at NU, and I get the amazing opportunity to share my love for the school with thousands of prospective students and families every day! I have fallen in love with this school even more than I thought possible via this position. NU has also given me so many unforgettable experiences- I have been able to study abroad, engage tons of community service activities, and complete two amazing coops in my four years here. I have been honored to be a face for NU in the Admissions office, and I would love the opportunity to represent this school for current students as well!

Best Northeastern Memory: the first time I had a Turkey Avocado from Rebecca’s. Just kidding (although I do love those)- my favorite memory is probably homecoming 2011, because I met so many other huskies and it was the first time I really felt part of this community!

Fun fact: Aaron Carter followed me on Twitter for all of sophomore year!

Name: Yakira “Shakira with a Y” Levy

Year: Fifth Year

Hometown: Sudbury, MA

Major: International Affairs

Organization You Represent: Alpha Epsilon Phi

Why You Are Running: I moved around a lot as a kid and this is the first time I’ve ever been at the same school for four (or even five!) consecutive years! Northeastern genuinely does feel like home to me. What better way to celebrate Homecoming and being a Husky than running for Queen? Also, I’ve always wanted my head on Shakira’s body so now all of my dreams have come true.

Best Northeastern Memory: My best Northeastern memory was during the summer of 2011 when I was an Orientation Leader! It was the final game of the Stanley Cup and the Bruins just won the title – all 31 Orientation Leaders ran around Back Bay cheering and planking (this was when planking was still a thing.. #tbt) and then ended up by the Reflecting Pool with about 300 other students. Naturally, we jumped in and I crossed “swimming in the Reflecting Pool” off my bucket list!

Fun Fact: I can eat a Chipotle burrito in 3 minutes flat. I’m not proud, but its a fact.

Name: Anastasia Thibodeau

Year: Junior

Hometown: Martha’s Vineyard

Major: Business

Organization You Represent: Sigma Delta Tau Sorority

Why You Are Running: I am running to represent my sorority. Northeastern University was my first choice for college, so why wouldn’t I want to run for Homecoming Queen? I believe I have the most school spirit and Husky Pride physically possible, and own every article of Husky attire. Go Huskies! #AnaForQueen2014

Best Northeastern Memory: My entire freshman year. Northeastern integrated me into the Boston community and allowed me to meet so many amazing people from around the world. Before freshman year I had never seen the big city at night or watched a college sporting event. I was initiated into my sorority freshman year, and met my best friends shortly after.

Fun Fact: I have never driven on a highway, freeway, or anywhere with traffic lights. Martha’s Vineyard only has stop signs, and the highest speed limit is 45 mph.

Name: Amanda Andersen

Year: 4th (Junior)

Hometown: Vacaville, CA

Major: Health Sciences

Organization You Represent: Delta Phi Epsilon

Why You Are Running: I am very involved on campus and I really love being a student at Northeastern! Coming to school here was the best decision I have ever made and I would love to represent our school!

Best Northeastern Memory: My best memory at Northeastern so far has been going on a Dialogue to Italy after my freshman year. However, I know I have many great memories to make!

Fun Fact: I will be cooping at the Hospital for Special Surgery in NYC next semester!

Name: Kendall Donohoe

Year: 3rd Year / Class of 2017/18

Hometown: Meredith, NH

Major: Pharmacy

Organization You Represent: Resident Student Association

Why You Are Running: I’m running because I want to inspire and empower other Northeastern students to be excited and spirited about whatever makes them proud to be a Husky. At a school like NU where we have so many opportunities for community service, professional experience, leadership in student organizations, and travel to other countries, there are SO MANY ways to show your husky pride! I love Northeastern and this year I have been able to advocate for students and serve our community through my involvement with RSA. I’m so excited to have the opportunity to run for Homecoming Queen because I want to make life at Northeastern the best it can be!

Best Northeastern Memory: I really enjoyed being involved in Welcome Week this year. The fantastic student leaders of RSA had at least one event on every day of this year’s Welcome Week, and we also volunteered during move-in. It was so much fun to finally see the events we had been working on all summer, and it was an incredible feeling to hear great feedback and excitement about them from both new and returning students!

Fun Fact: Last year I went on an Alternative Spring Break trip to a Lemur Conservation in Florida

Name: Julienne Shannon Cleary Koehler

Year: Senior

Hometown: Sarasota, Florida
Major: Nursing
Organization You Represent: Kappa Kappa Gamma
Why You Are Running: I’m running as a representative of Kappa Kappa Gamma. However, I’m running as more than a part of Greek Life. I believe that whoever is elected should reflect the entire campus, not just the aspects they are involved in. While Kappa has given me the support and platform to run on, I stand on Blackman as someone who Rowed for the D1 Crew team, a member of NUSNA (The Student Nurses Association) and someone who has been active in Curry through my entire time at Northeastern. I’m a devoted student who struggles through all-nighters in Snell, just like every other student, but more than anything else, I’m a loyal Husky.
Best Northeastern MemoryAlthough I felt genuinely honored the night Kappa voted me as our representative, the weeks since have been the real treat. I’ve seen an outpouring of kindness and love as friends have gone to great measures to help me complete the necessary steps required for Homecoming Queen. My supporters started the hashtag #KoehlerKindness encouraging friends and family to pass on thoughtful and kind deeds that help keep these blistering Boston Winters warm. Although I can’t speak to how effective it has been for others, what I can admit is that the encouraging things I have read people say about each other and about me has made it impossible to stop smiling since our campaign started. Regardless of the who is named Homecoming Queen, this whole experience has made me feel like true royalty (in the best sense of the word) and reinforced something I already knew – that I am where I belong and that I have become the person I am today because I have the very best people in my life.
Fun Fact: I’m terrified of Ferris Wheels.

Name: Tasha Radzinski
Year: Senior, Graduating in May of 2015
Hometown: From Rockport, Massachusetts
Major: Economics and Business AdministrationO
Organization You Represent: Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority
Why You Are Running: I am running for homecoming queen because I believe I can best represent the Northeastern Community. I am very involved on campus as treasurer of Sigma Sigma Sigma, an avid member of the NU Downhillers ski club, and an active member of the business community at Northeastern. From everything I am involved in, I would like to think of my self as personable and relatable to a lot of folks here on campus and that is my most important reason for running for queen this year.
Best Northeastern Memory: My best Northeastern memory was and is being involved in the Social Enterprise Institute we have on campus. Last summer I participated in the dialogue to Cape Town, South Africa and along with 40 other Northeastern students, was able to learn about the field of Social Entrepreneurship. It was amazing to be a part of this trip and to truly see the great opportunities that Northeastern has to offer.
Fun Fact: Addicted to running, have finished three full marathons with hopes to complete Boston in the spring!
