As inconceivable as it may seem, Kesha has not released any new music in over two years. In fact, her collaboration with Pitbull in 2013 to produce “Timber” was the last time she was on the charts as a singer.

The reason for this absence is a convoluted story that begins with a petition created in 2013 by Kesha’s fans. The goal was to get her out of the control of producer and writer Lukasz “Dr. Luke” Gottwald. Though it is now closed, the petition managed to get 12,336 supporters.

The following year, Kesha checked into the Timberline Knolls Residential Treatment Center to cope with bulimia. Her mother, Pebe Sebert, stated that Dr. Luke aggravated her condition by comparing Kesha’s body shape to a refrigerator and constantly telling her to lose weight.

Finally, in October of 2014, Kesha sued Dr. Luke for alleged sexual assault and battery, sexual harassment, gender violence, emotional abuse, and violation of California business practices. This created a series of countersuits between the pair, with Dr. Luke claiming defamation and asking the courts to dismiss Kesha’s suit. This complicated turn of events has stopped Kesha from being able to record any music, though she has said she would be willing to record under her Sony contract, just not with Dr. Luke. Her inability to record is a move she claims will end her career.

In the meantime, though unable to release new music, Kesha has covered songs such as “Amazing Grace.” On Twitter and other social media platforms, #GoodLuckKesha has been making the rounds. Now it is simply a waiting game, with the result of the suit (having been postponed due to winter weather) now set for February 19th.
