Name: Princess Mame (pronounced “mommy”)

Art form: Rap/Hip Hop

Social Media: Instagram & Soundcloud

What does your name mean?

Princess Mame, the princess is because I should be treated like a lady at all times and because I am not married so I am a princess. Mame because my family is Trinidadian so when I was younger my family used to call me “mame” all the time and that’s how we used to spell it. That’s the closest thing we could find

Where are you from?

I’m from Charlotte. I was born in Virginia Beach but I moved to Charlotte at about 6 and I’ve been there ever since.

So when did you start rapping?

I started rapping officially last year but I’ve always been into music. I never released anything until last year.

What do you mean, “I was into music”?

I would write, I was in poetry clubs, a little bit in middle school, always knew rhyme schemes and stuff like that. But i never went into the booth until last year

Do you have any projects out now?

I don’t have any projects out now but i am working on one. Its a noname tape at the moment but i feel like it will be something people will want to listen to

Ok, Do you have a concept for it?

Right now I’m going through a concept where just every thought that a female would ever go through on a daily basis. So there’s going to be songs with a little bit of anger. There’s going to be love songs, there’s going to be songs where I’m just kinda like “I’m just here to have fun” songs for you and your friends. So i was thinking about either doing it that way or i was going to do a different concept where it’s like basically all the relationships that I’ve grown with male wise I’m just going to make a song to represent them and that stage of my life

When are you planning on releasing?

Early in the year, sometime near Valentine’s Day.

As a female rapper what are some challenges you face working with people?

One of the challenges i have to face is just being taken serious. A lot of times people when i would tell people i make music they would be like “what do you do? You sing?” and then it’s like no, I rap and then they’re like really you rap I can’t imagine that and then when i play my music they’re like oh, I see it. It’s just being more understood that since I’m a female people tend to want females to be more girly like singers soft but when you’re going for a raunchy savage sound, people don’t like that, it’s too aggressive but females go through different stages, not everything you go through is rainbows and butterflies. That’s why I make the music I make. Yeah, I’m still cute but at the same time, I’m going through things just like everyone else so this is the type of music that portrays that.

Hi everyone! I am a sophomore at North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University who should be majoring in Weddings, but is actually a Journalism & Mass Communications student with a concentration in Multimedia. Originally I am from Woodbridge, Virginia, which is about 30 minutes south of our nation’s capital. I have lived here all my life, but I’m not afraid to branch out and explore the world. This past summer I studied abroad in Sydney, Australia to engage and immerse myself in Australian culture. The experience was phenomenal and I’m already counting down the days until I can return that beautiful country. Check out my Tumblr, Instagram, Pinterest, and Facebook.
