Dear Momma,
You are appreciated.
When we are students in middle school through our college years and we are interviewed or filling out college applications, we are most often asked by one or more groups who is the most inspiring person to us. I’ve had friends explain their deepest thoughts about the person who first walked the moon, or incredible scientists, or their favorite sports player; but momma, you’re mine.
You’re mine for countless reasons and there are only so many that I can explain with words, so I’m going to try my hand at it.

Dear momma, you are inspiring. Back to what I was saying about interview questions, you have ALWAYS been that person I said was the most influential or inspiring person to me. You are such a strong, independent, motivated, loving person. You followed your dreams into a profession you knew you wanted to be in since you were a young girl. A profession that demonstrates care and understanding, which you often demonstrate to me. Not everyone can show the love you do to people you don’t know on a daily basis, and I admire you for that.
Dear momma, you are wise. I don’t give you enough credit when credit is due. The lessons you have taught me stem from simple learning experiences like don’t touch the burner because it’s hot, to the lesson you’ve been teaching me since fourth grade, which is watch who you surround yourself with. It’s like you knew what was going to happen, ten steps ahead of me before I could even imagine the situation. It might be a ‘mom’ thing, or the fact you know me better than I know myself. You always know what to say, how to say it and when to say it; all at the right times. Again, it must be a ‘mom’ thing.
Dear momma, you are my very best friend. It has always been you and me (aside from the fact we are a family of eight.) From the moment you found out at a young age that you were pregnant with me, to the flight from the Philippines that marked the start of our new lives, supporting every crazy dream I had as a child, and keeping a guiding eye on me as an adult, you have always been there. There has never been a corner that I have turned where you weren’t there and there has never been a problem I have fallen back from and you weren’t there to catch me. For all those times, whether or not it’s to say “I told you so,” I am grateful.
One last thing…
