More Than Clothes: Rainy Day Blues

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Muhlenberg chapter.

I truly believe that weather affects college students the most. We are the ones that have to walk to class every day, no matter how rainy or snowy it may be; I would say that the weather probably sets the tone for the day. With the change from fall to winter approaching, it has started to become especially rainy. This is when your hair starts to frizz up, your skin gets soaked, and it is just hard to know what clothes to put on your body. It’s just not a comfortable time.

Here are some basic pieces that will work for the cold weather:

·         Leggings

·         Long boots

·         Oversized sweaters

·         Scarves

·         Hats

Rainy days have progressively become easier for me. I took some time to just think how I will practically walk across campus in the pouring rain. Fortunately, it didn’t take me too long to come to a solution. I have an oversized beige sweatshirt that is perfect for the weather and helps me stand out, as often people will not wear earthy tones in the rain. This was definitely the move for me. I pair that, with black pants that flare out in the end, and my water-proof Doc Martens. Wearing a beanie with this will look nice with the sweatshirt and provide extra protection from the wet weather. If you don’t feel enough protection with all of this, you can definitely throw a raincoat over it.

Another solution to rainy-day-blues may seem counterintuitive, but I promise it works: Wear all black! It is sleek, simple, and has that rainy day vibe. If you just work together, you and your wardrobe already have all the tools you need to get through this cold, rainy weather.

My name is Alison and I currently go to Muhlenberg College. I study Theatre but also have an eye for fashion. My style is a huge part of who I am. I not only express myself on stage, but express myself with the my wardrobe. Owning your own style and vibe is important. Writing for HerCampus is also a privilege for me because now I can write about fashion, give advice, and encourage my readers to own who they are with the clothes they wear. I also keep people updated on my outfits and what i wear that gets me through college! I encourage people to follow me on my instgram almaybaum_ and my Visco!
